I found the best way to clear expensive debt 30 years ago was to check my bank's personal loan rate. Usually not bad. Then pay it off early at no extra charge.

Same page they report Farage at Davos saying he wants 10% max on credit card interest. Might help some with long term debt but @ 10% I would guess the banks would remove the protection you get on purchases over £100.

With my Land economics Bsc..hat on. Not against the Governments reform of Leasehold and Freehold property. Outdated and being abused .I remember at the Duchy of Cornwall in the early seventies collection of leasehold largely peppercorn rents were as big a pain as collecting "Glebe and Tithes... "

There are careful considerations to be assessed mind. Those of you who have owned Flats / Maisonettes for investment will know often there is a management issue if there are gardens/ flat roofs / maintenance in general to deal with. Particularly in blocks high rise etc.. It can be hard to collect fees from some. A sinking fund needs to be instituted to cover inevitable repairs due to Wear and tear. (Flat roofs a good eg) Insurance must be airtight, and someone has to run a committee. Better managed in house if possible.

Be interesting too see the proposals in detail . Maybe labour have an FRICS on board? I cannot be bothered to check.

We no longer rent out our freeholds. Makes no difference to me but to Lloy ?
