"Ennstone hopes to get back on track with Donington F1
An aggregates company that recently announced it was cutting its workforce is hoping the redevelopment of Donington Park race circuit will give it a welcome boost. Last month, Ennstone revealed plans to shed about 170 jobs before the end of the year.
Donington Park is awaiting planning permission for a £100m revamp in time for the 2010 F1 British Grand Prix.
If permission is granted in late January by North West Leicestershire District Council, work on the £100m project will start on a new pit lane and paddock area and a new half-mile section of track.
The nine-month construction programme will create work for up to 300 people.
Ennstone's UK base at Breedon-on-the-Hill quarry is a short distance from the circuit. It produces aggregates, asphalt and concrete products - materials that would be required in the Donington revamp.
Last week, Donington Park hosted an open day to give local businesses an insight into its facilities.
Among those attending was Gerard McDermott, regional manager for Ennstone, who said: "As a neighbouring business, we have a very good relationship with Donington Park.
"It is certainly very exciting times for the venue in terms of it securing the rights to host the British Grand Prix.
