Mouchel appointed to HS2 framework
10 February 2012
High Speed Two (HS2), the company set up by the Department of Transport to develop and promote the new £32bn high-speed rail link between London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester, has awarded infrastructure and business services Group, Mouchel's engineering and environment business a place on its land referencing services framework.
The initial plan is for a new railway line between London and the West Midlands, carrying 400m-long (1,300ft) trains at speeds of up to 250mph - faster than any current operating speed in Europe. Following the consultation for this first phase in 2011, HS2 has confirmed that work will now begin on the engineering, design and environmental aspects.
Mouchel's role is to identify potentially affected properties and the legal interests of the owners/occupiers of these properties. This information is then delivered as a package to HS2 in support of the hybrid Bill it is developing that - once approved by Parliament - will authorise the scheme to be built and operated.
Ashley Parry Jones, Mouchel's Divisional Director for Environment and Engineering, said: "Mouchel is the single largest supplier of these services in the UK, having worked on Crossrail, Thameslink, HS1 and Thames Tunnel. We are looking forward to supporting HS2 on this important programme."
Work under the land reference services framework, which includes four companies, is valued at between £15m-£30m.
