I'm not sure this is a correct statement, however I am bald, the reason is because every-time Rolls Royce share price goes up my wife pats me on the head.

Are the apprenticeships only 3 years these days ? Used to be 4 years back in my day. Although first year was spent at a training school with apprentices for other firms.

Bringing back memories for me now.

PEAKDREAD, another question if you don't mind.

Do Rolls Royce automatically keep apprentices on, once they come out of their time ? The reason I ask is I worked for a firm that always used to take the apprentices on full time once they served it. It was kind of expected in those days ( 70s and early 80s) Or does it just depend on orders won etc at the time ?

I'm interested, back then did Rolls Royce take on many apprentices in a variety of trades ? Such as Turners, Mechanical Fitters Electricians etc ? Mostly for shop floor workers or did they take on apprentices for office based, technical roles ? I ask because when I was an apprentice many, many years ago it was just shop floor roles. To get into a higher paid role was a lot more difficult, normally only better apprentices had a chance...i wasn't one of them !

These days a lot of firms seem to be asking apprentices to do many roles and not just one, such as "Electrical/Fitters" etc.

It's always great to hear about firms hiring apprentices. It used to be said that if you have an apprenticeship in engineering you'll always find a job. That unfortunately is not the case in the UK over the last 20 years or so as engineering has declined. However, an apprenticeship working for Rolls Royce would be a job for life guaranteed in my humble opinion. The skill set and training there must be literally the best in the world.
