“this issue will end”26 Mar 2023 00:05
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Saturday discussed the recent ruling by a French court with his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, a senior advisor said today.
The verdict was issued by the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris last Thursday. It was against the independent crude oil exports of the Kurdistan Region through Turkey, based on which the Iraqi federal government would be the only party in charge of oil exports through Turkey's Ceyhan port.
However, Rebaz Hamlan, a senior advisor to PM Barzani for finance and economy, told Kurdistan 24 earlier in the evening that the Kurdish leader and Iraqi premier discussed the matter "for hours" via a virtual meeting.
Hamlan pointed out that there is a good understanding between the two sides, adding: "We will definitely reach an appropriate solution with Baghdad and this issue will end."
According to the official, a delegation, among whom will be head of Divan at KRG's Council of Ministers and Acting Minister of Natural Resources, will visit Baghdad on Sunday for talks on the court ruling.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani wrote on Twitter: "Our recent understandings with Baghdad have laid the groundwork for us to overcome the arbitration ruling today," confirming "a team from the KRG will visit Baghdad for talks tomorrow to build on the goodwill of our discussions."
