I totally agree with Chilston here. Everyone is assuming that because VR is the next big thing (which I agree to), then Music in VR shall de facto succeed. MVR might be Impressive if its the first VR taste you have but if you have tried gaming and other interactive experiences then you will rapidly realise MVR is not as immersive as you originally thought and it provides quite a mediocre VR experience.
I also agree in Chilston's concerns about the social aspect of music concerts. I wonder how many people pay for a ticket to a gig and go by themselves and sit isolated inside the venue. I do not see many lonely gig goers at all. Gigs and festivals is all about sharing the moment, drinking, getting in with the crowd, etc... so assuming this will replace the other or would serve as an alternative for sold out shows, I would say think twice.
yes new generations are hooked to their mobiles and communicate in different ways, hence you see them all in gigs documenting stuff with their phones to share and brag that they were there instead of actually enjoying the moment. However, I cant imagine many youngsters taking selfies with their VR headsets sitting in their living rooms #BestGigEver!! #YOLO
VR will be huge in gaming, porn, education, and other interactive experiences which use VR alongside physical situations. But assuming music will follow this just because might not be the best idea.
