The Gibraltar Stock Exchange is giving up its licence to operate and closing its markets.

Blockchain company Valereum had announced plans to purchase GSX last October. Last month the company ran out of time to make the acquisition after numerous extensions to do so.

The Financial Services Commission eventually refused to grant it another.

Valereum made international headlines when it was granted approval by the FSC to buy GSX.

At the time, it was planning to turn it into a gateway to European capital for fledgling companies from the Middle East, India and Africa.

However, after pushing the deadline throughout this summer, the FSC declined to extend it past the 28th September.

Valereum chairman Richard Poulden resigned and James Formolli took over.

Last month, the company said it would continue to have discussions with all relevant parties to find a way forward.

However, it has now posted notice that it plans to close its markets immediately.

We're supposed to believe that QGP were willing to pay $200m for half of VLRM because it enables them to tokenise their 'billions' of assets. But the links below show that it's relatively trivial to set up a wrapper around Tokeny, and loads are doing it.

So I ask again, what value are VLRM adding that makes a $200m investment plausible?
