Sometimes I compare a funds performance relative to the others provided by the same manager and other times I try to pick a consistently good performer in comparison to competitor funds in the same sector.As well as a high average in the good years of the five Im also looking for funds that have achieved lower drops in the bad years.My "daddy" comment was said in jest.If you want to pick and post a selection from various sectors then it might be interesting for me to post one as well and to post honest comments afterwards,it could be a good learning process.

I spent 5 and Im the daddy lol.Picking fund managers is like picking quality players in a fantasy football game in other words you know what your going to get.Easiest way to pick a fund go on hl site click on an asset management group or even sector,then click on performance and sift through the best performers over a five year period.For me personally I like to spread over 8 to 10 funds with a nice mix of continents and sectors.I did get in top 5 of telegraph fund picker competition once.

Funds are always long term never buy high sell low a rotton banana heading your way lol.Its about investing in the skill of the management team thats already been proven over a period of time.

The three that I mentioned in my earlier post,I always look for funds that have performed well in 4 of the last 5 years and not too badly in the other.

I use a tortoise now,its slow going forwards but tends not to fall out of trees.

In the past whenever Ive set up a fund portfolio,the ones that do well at the start tend to be the ones that have pulled away after 12 months.Anyway with this in mind having set up a portfolio 16 days ago the two leaders are axa framlington health up 2.82% and Baillie Gifford Greater China up 2.48%.Third is fundsmith equity up 1.44%.

It doesnt alter the competition so feel free to compare.I wouldnt mind investing in a mini portfolio next year from the people in positive figures from both years(2017&2016),Ariels the alpha picker in this cave.

As a former right wing voter I can understand your opposing viewpoint but I cant bring myself to vote for someone that wants to abolish free school dinners for the poorest kids in this country,call it a heart over head decision,anyway I dont wish a fall out with fellow cavers and Im not going to stand on a box over this lol.
