LONDON (Dow Jones)--Healthcare company Assura Group Ltd. (AGR.LN) Wednesday said it sold a 75.1% stake in its "GPCo" business to Virgin Group's Virgin Healthcare Holdings. The unit sets up joint ventures with U.K. doctors to provide services to National Health Service patients. It has established 30 so far. Assura, which also operates a pharmacy and property business, received GBP4 million from the sale which it reinvested in the business. Virgin also loaned it GBP4 million. It said the sale will enable it to focus on its other activities. Hydrocarbon is a newly formed company into which Pan Andean will transfer its North American and Bolivian assets and liabilities consisting of the entire issued share capital of Endeavour Oil & Gas Limited and Bolivian Hydrocarbons Limited respectively. By Sarah Kent Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES LONDON (Dow Jones)--Specialist chemical manufacturer Elementis PLC (ELM.LN) Tuesday said it would be willing to make another acquisition in Asia, following the success of its purchase of Taiwan-based Deuchem Co. Ltd. in 2008. Finance Director Brian Taylorson told Dow Jones Newswires Elementis would like to invest more in the region if the company could find "a similar acquisition." Elementis bought Deuchem for GBP40.4 million in July 2008 and Taylorson said a third of Elementis' specialty product business now comes from Asia. The acquisition has given the company a platform for growth it didn't have before, he added. Deuchem supplies additives and resin in China and Taiwan and sales of coatings in Asia grew 20% during the second half of 2009 compared to the first, outpacing a 16% growth rate overall. The unit now dominates Elementis' specialty chemicals business in Asia, according to Royal Bank of Scotland analyst Conor O'Prey. Despite the opportunities in Asia, Taylorson added he is cautiously optimistic for the business as a whole in 2010, adding a surge in global sales volumes after the Christmas break may not be a true indicator of demand for the year. Sales volumes rose 10% to 20% at the beginning of 2010 compared to the second half of 2009, but Taylorson attributed this to businesses reordering inventory for the new year. LONDON (Dow Jones)--U.K. car retailer Pendragon PLC (PDG.LN) Tuesday swung back to a full-year pretax profit as market conditions stabilized and it benefited from its cost cutting, but it expects the new car market to stay subdued for the next year before it gradually improves. Pendragon said it expects the used car market to remain stable and for after-sales to be resilient. The company also anticipates stable used car margins. For the year to Dec. 31, Pendragon posted pretax profit of GBP1.3 million compared with a pretax loss of GBP194 million in 2008. Revenue fell to GBP3.2 billion from GBP4.2 billion, while net debt was brought down to GBP315.4 million from GBP357.3 million.
