[SRT] The first batch of Identifiers for the $3.7million order announced in June 2012, has been shipped to the end customer. The first batch represents approximately 15% of this initial order value and the balance is expected to be shipped in two further batches before the end of December 2012. The Identifiers will be used to improve safety and security in Central America as part of a US government supported programme. The initial order worth $3.7m represents approximately one fifth of the total estimated project requirement. Further orders are expected to be received over the next two years to complete the project. In November 2011 [SRT] decided to proceed with the purchase of a strategic stock of components for its Identifier product due to the six month order to delivery lead time of components. In March 2012 the majority of these components were in stock and as a result enabled SRT to respond quickly to the customer's requirements and quickly ramp up production turning these components into final products within 6 months of order. Simon Tucker commented: "Our Supply Chain team has done an outstanding job to quickly ramp up production of Identifiers from zero to thousands in a matter of only a few months, whilst still maintaining the required quality. Our customer and their customer visited us in Somerset last week to inspect and accept the products prior to shipment and they too were impressed with the product and supporting team. This project has been in progress for over four years and is now reached its implementation stage. [SRT] is working on a number of other projects both larger and smaller in the Middle East and Asia many of which are also expected to move into their implementation phase over the next year."

[PINN] MIDAS EXTRA SHARE TIPS: Branching out is helping fast-growing broadcast technology group to boost profits By JOANNE HART - 15/08/2012 17:20:33 The group has supplied the BBC and CNN and is now looking to persuade its largest customers to use more of the diverse range of services it offers Pinnacle Technology Ticker: Pinn (AIM market) Pinnacle Technology, a small but growing company on the Alternative Investment Market, played an integral part in the proceedings. The group supplied the BBC with all the connections needed to be able to broadcast internationally from Stratford. It even supplied internet phone switchboards, handsets and data connections for the international media and international audiences were almost equally won over by the excitement and the spectacle. Pinnacle has experience at this kind of thing. At the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the group helped the BBC and CNN to broadcast the weekend events to the world. When the Pope led an open-air mass at Cofton Park in Birmingham back in 2010, Pinnacle was behind the technology that allowed the service to be broadcast internationally. When the BBC organised its ‘Big Weekend’ festival in Hackney before the Olympics, Pinnacle enabled it to be shown live on the internet. And throughout the summer, the company has been providing similar services for events ranging from Glastonbury to the Chelsea Flower Show. But the group does not just focus on one-off events. A fully-licensed phone operator, the company has its own telephone network and is also at the cutting edge of mobile phone and internet provision. The group, led by Scottish entrepreneur Alan Bonner, has around 3000 customers, ranging from small independent businesses to the BBC, HSBC, Sotheby’s and Rugby Football Union. Over the past five years, since joining Aim, Bonner has made a string of acquisitions allowing the business to offer a range of services from simple land-line telephones to complex IT services, including top-level internet security. Pinnacle even has its own data centres so it can look after companies’ emails, websites and other computer needs. Overall, the group has eight different services that it can offer customers. At present, they take an average of 1.3 each so Bonner’s strategy is simple – having acquired a selection of businesses and integrated them with one another, he would like to persuade his largest customers to use more of his services than they currently do. Some have already started. Fund management business Jupiter, for example, started off using Pinnacle for its telephone systems. Now its buys a range of internet services from the group. And the more customers buy, the more money they save, with average cost savings of 25 per cent when they buy a group of services. Pinnacle is growing fast. Last year, turnover rose 29 per cent to £8.5 million and operating profit rose 110 per cent to £165,000. Over the next few years, Bonner is keen to take revenues to £50 million and believes it can be done, by selling more products to existing customers and by making new, related acquisitions. Bonner is a determined individual, who founded Pinnacle in 1998 and remains a 10 per cent shareholder. He also recruited Bill Allan as chairman, the former chief executive of highly successful phone group THUS (sold to Cable & Wireless in 2008). The company is small but it has some heavy-weight customers who seem to appreciate its approach and its internet expertise. Midas verdict: Pinnacle shares are just 0.3p each so investors can tuck a few hundred away and still have change from £250. This is not a share for the ultra-cautious but for investors who fancy a bit of an adventure and are ready to back a British company with ambition and drive, Pinnacle could prove rewarding.

[DEO] DEO welcomes the HM Treasury ("HMT") statement in respect of the package of changes to field allowances for companies operating in the UK and UK Continental Shelf. The changes designed to increase investment and production in the North Sea are anticipated to directly impact DEO, in particular the new small field allowance against the current Supplementary Charge rate of 32%. DEO estimates that its Perth Field Phase 1 recoverable resources will now be below the new and increased minimum threshold set by HMT of approximately 45 million boe, and therefore anticipates that it will benefit from the full amount of its 52.03% share of the increased field allowance of £150 million. This will reduce DEO's tax payable by approximately £25 million over the life of the field, improving project economics. David Marshall, DEO Chief Executive Officer Comments: "This is more encouraging news from the HM Treasury that will directly affect DEO, and is an encouraging demonstration of the Government's commitment to attracting oil and gas investment in the North Sea."

[PINN] Old News but worth a read! Newham Council has been granted planning permission to change the use of several floors and the rooftop at Lund Point and Dennison Point for the BBC and Al-Jazeera from July 20 to September 10. The application was rubberstamped at a meeting of Newham Council’s local development committee, despite objections from some of the blocks’ remaining 77 occupied flats. Construction will now officially start on May 1, although existing residents say work has already long since started. Osita Madu, Lund Point resident and chairman of Carpenters Against Regeneration Plans (CARP), said he would contact Newham Council to find out what planning conditions are in place. He said: “It was just as expected really. Most applications where big companies are involved tend to go through. “The BBC have already been working there, cameras have been set up. They had to put the application to the committee because its part of the due process.” Work will be restricted to between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to noon on Saturdays. However, additional engineering work, such as re-wiring, can take place outside of these restrictions between July 4 and 20. Flats facing away from the Olympic Park will be used to store equipment or for production purposes. Mr Madu added: “I want reassurances that there is going to be no disruption and I want a contact number from anyone at BBC should anything arise.” Floors 16, 17, 19, 21, and 22, and the rooftop at Dennison Point in Gibbons Road will temporarily become home to Al-Jazeera Sport Channel’s broadcast team. Millicent Barrance, whose family moved into Dennison Point 17 years, said the process has been unsettling for her parents, who are in their 60s. She said: “They are the only residents left on the first floor and they will have to deal with the sound of drilling every day. “They come home after a hard day’s work and they like where they live. They were looking forward to the Olympics but all that has been taken away. “It’s really frustrating because they haven’t heard anything or been offering any compensation by the council.” A council spokesman declined to say how much it had been paid to allow the broadcasters to use the properties. He added: “This revenue will be reinvested in the Mayor’s Legacy Fund to provide services for young people and other residents.”

[ITM] Has signed an agreement with GMI Renewable Energy Group Ltd ("GMI") to offer an integrated renewable power generation and hydrogen production for back-up power, industrial processes and refuelling solutions for materials handling equipment in commercial buildings. This agreement will offer renewable power coupled to hydrogen generation as a totally zero carbon process. Under the agreement, GMI will offer its existing and potential new customers the alternative of hydrogen generation as a use of their renewable power generated on-site. ITM Power will provide the hydrogen generation and refuelling equipment and, if required, the fuel cell systems to enable customers to produce zero carbon hydrogen at the point of use for use in materials handling solutions, back up power and industrial processes. [SLG] Miniature antenna maker Sarantel (LON:SLG) will make its breakthrough in consumer electronics next year when it launches its next generation antenna, according to broker Xcap. In the fourth quarter of this year, the company will begin production of a new generation of antennas when a GPS receiver chip will be integrated into the antennas to make a full module. Xcap analyst Tim Freeborn, who has a ‘buy’ rating and 1.6 pence target price, says this new module has many advantages over traditional patch antennas used in cameras and satnavs. The next generation antenna will be smaller than patch antennas with a diameter of 6.3mm, down from the current size of 7.5mm. This represents a 42 per cent volume reduction and is far smaller than the 8.5mm depth of the Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S3 antennas. As well as being smaller, the new antennas will sell for US$7-8 each, a significant price jump from the current antenna price of US$3. Modules can also be machine installed, while patch antennas need to be connected by hand and require an expensive connector to overcome poor signal insulation, Freeborn added. Although a simple patch antenna only costs 50 cents, the price rises to US$1 with the connector. Add fitting on top of that and the full costs of the modules will not be far off. Some versions will be able to receive Wi-Fi as well as GPS. The Xcap analyst notes Korean tech giant Samsung’s acquisition of chipmaker CSR (LON:CSR) as a significant marker of the potential of wireless tech firms. “Samsung’s purchase of CSR’s mobile product range – on generous terms – shows how embedded technology and patents have a strategic value quite divorced from current revenues. What’s true of CSR is far more true of Sarantel,” said Freeborn. He also thinks the imminent arrival of 4G and longer-range Wi-Fi suggests Sarantel’s technology will “loom larger” on product roadmaps. Freeborn thinks this has yet to happen because previous antennas were too large and too expensive to foster interest. Sarantel shares slipped 7.7 per cent to 0.3 pence.
