So why pay it??

So if they pay a dividend it will be whatever the 30p or 30p plus directly off the share price? So what's the point in paying it? Surely better to use other ways. Is it me? I just dont understand dividends...

Market tanked but we held up well. On a normal day the news we had would surely of been a 5% up day. Things looking better here. Hold on... IMO

So what's going on here? Seem to be bouncing along around the low 70s for a week or so now. All sector has corrected down and reached lower levels . What's peoples thoughts are they going to bounce up soon or just stagnate for a while until next results?
