on the face of it, i do not like this double deal. each asset should have stood on its own merits - not be linked or pulled through the m&a finish line on the strength of another. it says (or doesn't say) alot about the cameroon asset, that ja had do dangle namibia in front of them in order for prime to bite.
issue i have is a sought after block like pels in namibia, in an area where interest is increasing, should have been held onto until chevron (a little to the south in pel82 walvis basin) worked up the geological model and dropped $20-40million on 3d seismic programme (they dropped almost $40mln on the 3d seismics for pel90 and are now carrying sintana through kapana-1x, currently drilling ahead). once the geological model is complete, you'd get true sense of the potential value based on cost aswell as a fully worked programme ahead of a potential drilling campaign.
the entry of chevron into the basin is huge - this is not 2014 anymore - the orange basin successes have given many insights into where they should be focussed and how they should approach exploration.
