Roundtable Discussion; The Future of Mineral Sands. Watch the video here.
What is usually missed from this endless "debate" on home v cinema.
Cost of cinema etc is that the percentage of population that make up (and are needed to make up) regular cinema goers is TINY!!
The business model doesnt require the majority of households to visit on a regular or even semi regular basis.
Not that it really matters,but....

One movie to take over $1bn (Spiderman) in last two years.
Will we have 3 - 6 adding average $1bn + in space of next few weeks?
Top Gun looking strong to over take Dr Strange (itself passed $900m and still accumulating).
So those two, then Jurassic.
Then maybe not quite $1bn worldwide but higher hundreds added from Lightyear and Minions.
Thor to add some hundreds of millions $$'s
Elvis and few others to offer decent support below that.
Still need more in general, but hopefully couple decent months (will we get closer to "proper business levels in these months?let's see).
Cruis, not looked into it in detail for a bit, but I think I recall August and September tending historically to be weaker box office months many years.
Studios thinking audiences doing holidays/enjoying weather in USA in particular rather than go to cinemas!?
At least we will have a lower benchmark for these months to meet (expect the doomsayers to re appear strongly then to speak of low box office).
Reppyrr,
I know it's not a popular view or topic, but as good as Top Gun is doing the company is still trading considerably down.
Now let's for a moment forget COVID and 2020 and 2021 and even the additional more expensive debt taken on during that period.
People wouldn't normally rave about a business with reduced revenues and profits.
Until we have sustained and greater income and profit levels than we currently have then YES for me without doubt we need a "win" in the appeal.
Business appears to be returning and signs of hope but we have a journey yet.
Did 4D type thing about 25 years ago while doing all the Disney and Universal stuff.
Other than that then Top Gun last Thursday was .y first proper experience of it and enjoyed.
Though it doesn't make for a relaxing night at the movies.
I note that Jurassic will be available in 3D 4DX so that's another step up again I feel and I may go see that in this format.
Cruis, let's say I wasn't very taken by it. Nor was two girls I spoke to as we came out.
Always appreciate different people enjoy different things though.
You can see films you wouldn't normally, some will be good some not.
Men tonight was errr ... Different.
That aside got a trailer for one I hadn't previously heard about or noticed.
Idris Elba take on Aladin.
Now checking a little and it seems an 31 August US release and 30 September UK release.
Pleased to see this as August and September looked light. While I dont expect it to be huge, it is something.
Note also August now has a Popeye movie , Bullet train and few others now.
Some slots still from big studios bit with as yet un-named releases due for wide release
More glimmers of encouragement.
Edit: Spiderman obviously was our other big outperformer.
LPD, Yes BOMJO tends to take a bit extra time for territories outside US.
I still find it as good a source as any we have for our main markets however .
US tends to be there or there abouts within few days majority of time.
Some big blockbusters they get up strong estimates initially then correct when all the numbers filter through.
That is a key point regards Top Gun and it exceeding most predictions for opening weekend.
Hopefully (and I think it has good chance) it continues to perform strongly.
It is a key point because it is one of very few so far (can think back to QP 2, not sure much else of note) that has significantly outperformed expectations.
It's also key in that we are not now waiting weeks or even a month or so for our next big release unlike earlier in recovery.
Would still very much like to see much greater depth in release schedule (that would very possibly give us that extra xx% to get upto levels we really want on regular basis.
When $156m just isn't enough, actual figures updated to $160.5m :-)
sammy, I think Robin is still nursing a weak end after Rupert had him in the showers after tennis
LPD, I stand by that and my other comments.
If you can link us details of months the company has achieved its base case in US and the months that have had similar numbers of releases to pre pandemic then I will review my previous statements gladly.
I remain here in "hope" for better to come.
I remain invested.
I last sold/bought shares in this company some time further back than yourself.
Share Price has fallen from £1.24 to 24p all the time you refuse to accept any posts noting company and industry difficulties.
You truly are a sad individual.
I feel no need to trawl your back catalogue as I am not a child. :-)
I see reports of an estimated c. $220m 4 day Friday - Monday total box office for Memorial weekend.
That could see us end month in the $750 - $775m ballpark and by some way our best month outside Spiderman December since re-opening.
It would also be far nearer our base case levels (overperformance in other revenue streams could well mean we achieved it effectively).
Due to timing in month of TG release with Jurassic , Buzz and Elvis all next month I full expect similar or better there too.
Let's hope this builds momentum and we get releases for the quieter late summer/autumn months.
Revise that, now talking $150m.
https://deadline.com/2022/05/top-gun-maverick-box-office-1235034420/
Talking $140m + now, and not so sure about front loaded Cruis.
Unlike marvel stuff which tends to be Tom Cruise stuff tends to hold pretty well.
I can also see number of people seeing it more than once. know I will and heard many others say same.
Hope you are having awesome time.
Human weakness is understood Robin.
From Variety article noting a $19m+ Thursday opening for Top Gun (Paramount's biggest EVER )
“I’ve spent a lot of time with theater owners. The people that serve the popcorn, the ones who make this [happen],” he said. He also called theater owners to say, “Please, I know what you’re going through. Just know we are making ‘Mission: Impossible,’ and ‘Top Gun’ is coming out.”
Simply put: “I make movies for the big screen,” Cruise said.
Still can't leave eh blackorred ;-)
Which are you more bitter about now?
Losing c. 70% on your past investment in Cine, OR that the remaining funds you took out from that investment falling a higher percentage in xrp than it would have had you left it in Cineworld?
Cineworld has its problems, we all know that.
The SP is also been taking a beating (so have stocks all over this year).
You made your choices move on or it will kill you.
