The new bivalent vaccines were designed to target older variant plus BAA.4 and BA.5 of the newest crop of variants, but not BA.2.75.2 specifically - it will be interesting to know how effective the new generation vaccine proves to be against this sub-variant.

Omicron sublineage BA.2.75.2 exhibits extensive escape from neutralising antibodies

FTC, the point I was making (no doubt badly) is that vaccine status appears to provide little protection from catching this sub-variant, or so the evidence coming out of India suggests. Among the 228 cases studies, 219 (96.05%) were vaccinated to with COVID-19 vaccine, yet all 219 caught BA.2.75.2. It will be interesting to learn if that same finding is replicated in other countries and other populations, which I guess is why (due to it's immune evasion properties) they are monitoring it.

And an interesting fact in there: "Among the 228 cases, 219 (96.05%) cases were vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine; of these 72.60% had received both doses,". So it pretty much infects nearly everyone it comes in contact with , regardless of vaccine status. It would be good to have more data on severity as well.

Eventually people will get fed up of boosters, it's a zero sum game now, the further time knocks on, the less people will turn up for a repeated jab in the arm.
