COVID-19: Govt gives reopening companies 14 days to test staff 7th May 2020 COVID-19: Govt gives reopening companies 14 days to test staff By Xinhua
HARARE: The government has given companies which have reopened businesses following the partial lifting of the COVID-19 lockdown 14 days with effect from Thursday to ensure that they and their employees have been tested for the coronavirus.
The government on Thursday gazetted regulations allowing testing to be postponed after employers reported that they were having difficulties acquiring test kits after they had been ordered to first test the employees prior to reopening.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care will arrange the time and places for testing if contacted by employers.
According to the new regulations – the seventh amendment to Statutory Instrument 102 which enforced the original lockdown, employers must use the rapid results diagnostic test or any other test approved by the minister.
The regulations assume that businesses opened from Thursday but companies which reopen later can prove to an enforcement officer that they did so later.
Employers may arrange with enforcement officers for the testing to take place at an agreed time at the workplace or at any other agreed place. The health minister can also order retesting done at intervals of not less than 30 days. https://t.co/JE0z9NRf3b?amp=1
Vice President Slumber Tsogwane said that based on the government's response to the coronavirus outbreak and the current trajectory of the disease, the administration decided to open the economy albeit incrementally, while observing the disease patterns.
Tsogwane made the announcement Wednesday during a meeting of lawmakers reviewing proposals from President Mokgweetsi Masisi on reopening schools and the economy.
Masisi favors a gradual process that meets guidelines from health officials on staying vigilant in slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
Masisi and lawmakers wore face masks during the discussions.
Botswana has confirmed 28 cases of coronavirus and one death.

Replying to @kjawoogie 2/ #ARS some key take aways 1. Value engineering works could create $35-50m of NPV if all come off 2. Huge potential to increase mine life by 3-4 years from 4 or 5 immediate targets $50-100m of additional NPV Kevin A @kjawoogie · 43m 3/ 3. BKZ not included in BKM NPV has 1.5MT of high grade zinc at surface. #ARS believe 5-10MT within BKM area all at surface. 4. #Beutong a Sleeping Giant with a “sweet high grade core” will be advanced with another Partner. Kevin A @kjawoogie · 38m 4/ 5. #Beutong 1/4m oz oxide #gold at surface at Beutong which could be a starter project and looks heap leachable. 6. Aeturnum Energy looking for supply for end product (#copper from BKM) to trade and to provide mining services. Green energy/ cu thematic particularly attractive.
