Why would a consolidation make a difference, if the dividend was increased to take account of the reduction in stock? If the dividend is increased relative to the consolidation, it wouldn't make a difference to current shareholder finances.
Personally, it wouldn't bother if they used buybacks to get down to 60 Billion shares, then consolidating down to 20 Billion shares and multiplying the dividend by 3. A higher price per share would reduce volatility, and in my opinion preferable to being a sub £1 stock.
