No assumptions needed frostbar12 as ME told us in the Directors talk interview (14 Jult 2020) that multiple parties - including world leaders in the IP litigation space - had spent nearly an entire year going over the patent infringement case with a fine toothcomb representing a process akin to a mock trial etc.. A litigation funder has also staked, potentially, a sum in excess of $10m of its own money on the outcome of the case and so the sort of negative speculation doing the rounds here - that there might be some fundamental flaw in the case - is laughably wide of the mark IMO. Given the wilful infringeement dimension damages could escalate massively by the time this is over. By my reckoning on the basis of the numbers ME has stated (14m Samsung tv's sold by July 2020 at a premium of around $1,000 a set) we could easily be looking at an overall claim value of around 2.5 x $500-$1bn which would make for a very large special dividend around a year or two from now, maybe. Those sort of sums would only put a small dent in Samsung's profit from this IP infringement and might even be seen as an extremely conservative assessment, but it's the sort of sum I'd expect minimum for an out of court settlement. I am very happy to wait and hoover up more shares at a miserable 10p
