The British company Predator Oil and Gas has finalized a new well design and drilling fluids adapted to the gas resources of its onshore Guercif gas portfolio, located in the Oriental region.
Previously, drilling tests at the MOU-3 well did not meet expectations , as they were unable to overcome damage to the natural gas reservoir formations or optimize conventional drilling due to the nature of the reservoir geology. This prevents a safe and continuous flow .
The new well design is flexible and offers three advantages :

Testing of the Mou-3 target (containing gas) without drilling equipment.
a possible subsequent re-intervention and replenishment targeting less deep objectives
a possible future deepening of the well towards underlying objectives.
On the other hand, Predator has finalized an analysis of drilling fluid options which resulted in the selection of a high-performance water-based drilling fluid that minimizes fluid and solid invasion into the reservoir, limits fine migration and pore clogging, and whose combination reduces mud density during drilling.
These developments are expected to gain new momentum following the imminent conclusion of a partnership with a new operator, which is in the final stages of negotiations. Under this flexible transfer agreement, the future partner would primarily commit to drilling a new well and reimbursing the historical costs associated with the license.
As a reminder, Predator's already certified resources are estimated at a volume not exceeding 1.7 billion cubic meters . In light of new developments, Predator is highlighting an additional volume, pending the drilling of a new well (MOU-6 ) which should confirm the presence of 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
If these volumes are confirmed, an application for an operating license will be filed in 2026, in parallel with the development of a compressed natural gas project and/or an investment in a micro liquefaction unit for its production ( similar to Tendrara ), on the onshore license of Guercif.
Compared to the initial certified volume, the new resources, if confirmed, could reach a volume equivalent to that of the Tendrara field, currently being brought up to speed for a planned start of commercial production in the third quarter of 2026 .
