After decades of awareness and millions of dollars collected, we still have no cure. Most of the money raised is not spent for research and drug development. With the integration of AI and possible quantum computing, we are seeing novel drugs that give us great hope but seem to be stuck for funding or in trials without being fast tracked. The time is now to focus on these drugs and save thousands of lives. We see many biotech companies heading to EU and Australia for trials, we need to expedite here also all these drugs. What can be done to work with the EU to streamline the process to keep up with new technology? The MBC community is counting on you! Question 11:

There's a reference in a broker note, to Avacta having conversations around potentially increasing the max cumulative dose equivalent to be beyond 550mg. Has the uplift from 450 mg to 550 mg seen much impact? And do we want to go higher than 550 mg if we're permitted?

Answer from Meeting:

Yes, so the change, let me take the first part of that. The change from 450 to 550 has had a meaningful impact. Patients can now receive approximately 20, 25% more drug than in the previous cohorts, and so that's a longer period of time that patients can be treated. And so, to a patient who is responding to the drug and having that favourable safety profile, not needing to move on to the next regimen of combination chemo. This, to me, this represents an important change.

The second, this is also a great question. We are looking to eliminate that lifetime maximum, but it is going to require agreement with the health authorities. And so, while I can't comment on ongoing conversations with health authorities, what I can tell you is that the cardiac safety data, especially in patients stopping at the max of 550, these data were very favourable compared to conventional doxorubicin. This was something that we presented at ESMO. I can also commit to that, that once a decision is made, we will absolutely communicate this to the investigators, the patients, as, as well as to the shareholders alike. It is, it is an important thing that we are looking at now.

Publication Date (PCT)

Timing: Typically 18 months after the priority date, which is the filing date of the very first patent application (even a national one) that disclosed the invention.

Purpose: Makes the invention public, creating prior art for others, but also gives you time to decide where to pursue patents.

Key Distinction for Drug Patents

For drugs, these dates are crucial because patents last 20 years from the filing date, but development takes years.

The priority date (the earliest date) is used to calculate the 20-year term and other extensions like Patent Term Extensions (PTEs) for regulatory delays.

The IFD starts the PCT journey, but the earliest priority date defines the invention's "age" for patent duration and extensions, often leading to a longer effective monopoly for the drug.
