I read this morning that the Big Barrick CEO has agreed to help Tanzania build their own smelter. Is this not what the Tanz government want and can this not lead to a resolution of our current problems?

The details of this charter are akin to Nationalisation by the "chosen few" (blacks) and I wonder where Peter Haines is now? It looks worse than "Apartheid" - Pure discrimination based on the colour of your skin! Sadly, the regime is missing the boat. In addition, the downgrade by Moody's Standards and Poor and one other rating agency means that desperately needed foreign investment just will not happen! No growth means no black jobs and which population group is experiencing an explosive growth rate of uneducated people? It will be tough as their recession sinks in! All gold shares in SA fell significantly with this announcement today. Obviously not liked by any of the big mining houses. Sibanye fell quite significantly. There will be resistance at court level, no doubt about that! Long battle and more difficult to find overseas investment, heaven knows how they will grow their economy? Funny how these african states like to shoot themselves in the foot? Or do they think there is Chinese is Salvation?

Watching and hoping for a good resolution and solutions going forward - then everybody is a winner! Or does the Tanz Govt want all sides to lose, surely not? Population growth, wealth creation, foreign currency generation and new investment (in mining) plus employment must surely ring bells for sane minded government officials or, how do they see prosperity coming to Africa? Surely old Julius Nyrere's failed model of the past must still be remembered when Tanz was an impoverished failed commy state? Do they want to go there again?
