The Portuguese government were required to authorise the sale of Chelsea FC - because of RA's citizenship - and of course they did, and were doubt keen to do so. It's also been reported that the Portuguese police have been investigating alleged criminal actions surrounding the granting of citizenship to Roman Abramovich, which is still ongoing.

(Putin is overseeing the death of Ukrainians and the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure, which seems worse to me.)

No blame apportioned to Putin's actions then? Thought not.

Incidentally, were you polluting anywhere else before you joined LSE on 26 June this year?

Or may be it would be fairer to say (not sure) that they do have them but can't get rid of them - especially if they're still receiving franchise fees, etc., from them.

Regarding the operation of foreign companies, it seems it's complicated by the entities that operate the businesses in Russia.

In May, M&S has announced that will close all its stores and stop sending stock there, but it could not close 50 outlets due to its franchise agreements with the operators. Similarly, Subway cannot close its 450 restaurants because they are independently owned. Same again for Burger King's 800 franchised locations, and again for Marriot Hotels 22 locations.

So it seems none of these companies have operations in Russia, as they are all run by third parties, and legally they don't seem to be able to - perhaps surprisingly - terminate their franchise agreements/contracts.
That's my understanding anyway, but I could well be wrong on some/all so feel free to correct me!

1) If you stated, for instance, that a named politician was corrupt, then LSE would probably have had no alternative but to delete your posts. If you provide them verifiable evidence that they are, then this might be fine and they can stay. As you haven't any evidence, they need to be deleted.
2) The country (if you mean the UK) isn't bankrupt.
3) Deleting posts on a private chat board isn't quite the same as what happened in Germany during WW2 - it's 100% false, in fact, to say it is.
4) Free speech doesn't mean you can say what ever you like - try that in your street one day and see what happens (if you like prison food)
5) This is a chat forum operated by a private company that controls the terms of use, and these are in T&Cs that you implicitly signed up to when you joined it.

Russia is a failed state, with leaders who've consistently and systematically failed their own citizens, and is now forcibly making Ukraine an even poorer country than it already was - which, by some measures, was the poorest in Europe even before the war, but of course now ....

It seems a shame they haven't recently done anything constructive for the world - and threatening to cause widespread nuclear destruction doesn't count either, and nor does stealing grain that others so desperately need around the world.

In terms of "winning", I'd agree that Russia is way ahead in relation to the destruction of lives, living standards, physical property, and war crimes - plus of course on the number of countries that it's threatened to nuke and obliterate if they continue to say nasty things about it.

And not a single word that could be construed as propaganda from Russia either, not even by Lavrov.

There were at least 29 posts deleted from here yesterday.

Having read many of them, it was obvious to anyone (or should've been) with any sense why some needed to be deleted by LSE. It seems to come down to a number of disruptive posters, and then innocent posts are deleted as part of the thread deletion. The two main offenders I had in mind from yesterday don't seem to have posted since, which is encouraging.

Pandamonia - You're probably one step ahead of me. I'm just contemplating Russia (perhaps unwittingly, but without many alternatives) getting itself into a dependent relationship with China. From what I've been reading, China really doesn't care much for Russia - it just wants it's natural resources. And the USA is, as you say, very fortunate to be self-sufficient in most things that matter.

Russia has now made that prospect less achievable by substantially narrowing its customer base - significantly more power to China over prices perhaps?

I suppose the $400B at 2014 natural gas prices is now substantially more due to gas price increases, whereas the originally deal was just $13B per year - that doesn't seem like a great deal when compared with Russian GDP, for instance.
