Its basic common sense, unless its in a sensitive area eg near water supply for locals, once the exploration and production has started they are allowed to carry on, all be it is a sustainable manner.

the Ecuadorian government put some laws in place to backup their sustainable mining policy, which stops this happening in the future.

Thats the important question here, majors don't want this rearing its ugly head again.

They already have things in place for sensitive ecological areas, particularly with regard to water supply.

Lets hope they come up with something in law which cannot allow any Tom, DIck and Harry to file for a referendum on important national issues.
