@EarlyG -- Yes, and I have spent way more time on the 3 editions I've done so far than I'd like to admit!
To briefly describe the genesis of the idea:
We have a great community over at the QFI Shareholders Forum. We collect, discuss, and analyse all manner of interesting news that is relevant to QFI: marine, power, alternative fuels, and environmental issues, amongst others. It seemed a shame to keep all of that behind closed doors; after asking what everyone thought, and getting positive feedback, I decided to try spearheading an effort to bring our work out into the open: ianb suggested the name Quorum.
When I put together an edition, the topics and sources we've discussed in the forums are usually the root at which I start doing my research -- although, I find many others along the way.
You'll see "hat tips" (h/t) where I credit specific forum members who shared a contributing source, link, quotation, etc. Our forums and members are a great trove. If something was uncredited it was probably me (or I missed someone, sorry!).
I then expand out each topic as much as possible, looking for original sources and quotations, and any corroborating information. That can involve scouring company reports, investor calls, white papers, news articles, presentations, etc. I often find new information coincidentally.
For example, coverage of the recent QFI investor call, and the "scrubber status of large container ship companies" piece, were posts I originally made on the forums, and reworked for the zine. Other bits are completely original to the zine, including the profile on Freepoint Commodities from Edition 2 and the analysis of the RNSes.
I think I spent so much time digging through company reports this edition I felt I was going a touch cross-eyed!
There is also lots of original analysis and opinion to put forward my understanding and perspective on events, and to provide readers with context -- I try to clearly label that as it's obviously very different to reporting and investigation; I don't want to mislead anyone.
There are also plans for some interesting editorials. At the moment it's mainly me, but over time I'm hoping to get others more directly involved -- we'll see!
I'm really glad to get the positive feedback; thank you!
I hope it's clear a lot of this is about the community and trying to make a positive contribution. It would be hard or impossible to do something like this without everyone who scours all manner of sources to find relevant content :-).
