I think the recent breakthroughs give a much better opportunity to select the people who will respond well to treatment in a P3 trial . So it's good news all round . Perhaps they were waiting for this research to conclude before starting the P3 trial .

I think they are leaving it to the last minute because having the system installed , when it's not mandatory , could put buyers of new cars off .

No it was the insurers having access to the data that could be voluntary, not the equipment.

If the insurance companies could give discounts for good driving then it would give drivers the motivation to drive better .

For factory fitted kit all the data collected from one vehicle could go to a central hub . Then the insurer just contacts that hub for a report . Only if voluntarily agreed by the car owner .

I was thinking it would be more of a voluntary agreement. If the car owner wanted to participate rather than inforced by insurers. Good drivers might save on their insurance.

P.s. I think in the UK insurance companies like the AA , RAC , Direct Line etc. would welcome such a scheme.

As I have mentioned before in a previous post I think it's important to bring an element of ' an incentive to drive better ' with this technology.

My thought is that each car that has this technology fitted could have a report issued which details the safe driving of the car (or otherwise) over the previous 12 month period . Anyone with a good score could then be given a 10% discount off their next year's insurance premium.

All you need is for the different insurance companies to sign up to such a scheme .

It helps insurers to get to know their customers' safe driving skills and encourages drivers to drive in a safe manner . Otherwise there would be a tendency to regard the technology as invasive and a nuisance for those less conscientious drivers .

As I mentioned earlier I think SEE should get the insurance companies involved and on-board with this technology. The insurers have a vested interest in every single driver and car they insure . Ideally they would love it if every car driver they insure had zero accidents in their lifetime. They would be as happy as Larry 😃 Get all the driving data sent off to the insurance company for reduced insurance premiums.

Until the insurers get involved there will be little insensitive for drivers to drive better . Drivers will just find the whole technology invasive and a nuisance . If drivers can get cheaper insurance through better driving performance then that introduces the insensitive and the insurers will be happier to have that close connection with their risk .

For household car users if the data collected by the monitoring system could be sent to the insurance company of the car in question then that would provide an incentive to drive in a safer manner .

If the insurance companies could give "good driving discounts" off the next years insurance premium then that would improve driving on our roads . It's the lack of accountability for bad driving that let's this idea down for household use . If the insurance companies could receive a yearly report then driving would improve I feel .

They might not like it but it will be a great tool for monitoring so called "professional" drivers . Responsible employers will want to reduce their accident rates and insurance premiums and it certainly will help in that respect with large fleets of vehicles . They will be able to retrain and educate drivers who persistently drive in an irresponsible manner . It will save companies money and make our roads safer .
