The German government has now taken a 25% stake in Tui. Are they going to let it fail?
The road will be bumpy as day traders take profits and Covid issues take their toll but ultimately I'm sure this will be a good investment.
To make a rights issue comparison: prior to their 3for2 offer at 84p per share IAG share price was £2. It dropped to 137.6 p when they went ex rights on 14 September. 2 weeks later the price had dropped to a low of 91p. It now stands at 156p
Each share will cost 96.7p
The way I see it all retail share holders will be able to buy 25 new shares for every 29 held
Does anyone know the cut off date for being entitled to buy the rights?
I tend not to bother with these, just sit on them and pick up the dividends, but scanning through the posts I was amused by the refs. to "Michael". I remember watching a series on Michael Palin "around the world in 80 days". He met a man with a camel in the desert in Egypt and introduced himself as Michael. the man replied" my name is Michael and so is my camel"!
I guess its an international pseudonym .
URI results were not well received, the share price dropping 10.52% on the week consequently knocking AHT. This does not bode well for AHT Q3 results on 3rd March although AHT is not involved in the oil and gas industry which has impacted on URI.
and Barclays Capital target of £31.95.
I've held AHT for 18 years dipping out and in to transfer some to ISAs and adding to my holding as the price fluctuates. I now have a worrying amount of capital in one company as no doubt all long time holders have. These have officially been the best shares of the last decade.
It's a nice worry to have though!
Why the big fall? Ashtead is a good company but cyclical. 28th September last year they hit 2461 but by Christmas they had fallen to 1586. Also as they make about 95% of their profits in America they tend to follow their competitors there. So at the moment its mainly about Trump and his trade wars, the possibility of a global recession and Brexit. I watch the movements of the likes uf URI and H&E. URI have third quarter results on 17th October.
I note that, according to the Telegraph and under pressure from the City, Ashtead is scrapping pensions worth upto 40% of bosses' salaries and capping them at 15% for future executive directors.
Good on Brendan Horgan, leading the way.

Are you taking the interest on the debt into account?
I see that Trump's wall is back on the cards as the US Supreme Court has said that he can use£2bn of Pentagon funds for a section of wall on the southern border.
URI results beat expectations however they trimmed their guidance for the full year. Hence the fall in the SP of 12.73% on the week and the consequent fall in the SP of Ashtead back to their results in June.
C' est la vie!
United Rentals is expected to report a Q3 increase in EPS from $2,87 to $3.1 when it reports after hours on Wednesday.
Both URI and AHT shares have risen in anticipation this week. It remains to be seen what happens on Thursday.
