Quady, actually you can only repeat what your ‘opinion’ is as to the nature of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech maybe legally defined (which will impose restrictions) but this of course will differ according to political system, culture, historical period and geography. Also, as to whether those restrictions are just would also be a matter of opinion. As a concept, freedom of speech is of course a matter of discussion/debate. Yes you can draw on eminent philosophers throughout the ages to justify and add merit to your opinion. That does not however make you factually correct. After all if there was no discussion/debate to be offered as to the nature of the freedom of speech why did they have to argue their case in the first place. Your list is also hardly exhaustive especially when you exclude the likes of Mills, who coincidentally championed a very unrestricted right to the freedom of speech and liberty in general.
