Forest Road’s new brewery will open in South Bermondsey, on top the spot that used to host historical tea company, The Mazawattee
Ground works for the site began in June 2020. It will be capable of producing 30,000/hl a year, although the brand expects to brew only 11,000hl in the first 12 months of activity.
The brewery will feature a semi-automatic, 50-barrel, four-vessel brewhouse, partially designed by brewer Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River.
‘The brewhouse will change Forest Road, because I'll finally be able to brew my own ****ing beer again,’ said Brown, who has been making his beer under contract since Forest Road’s foundation in 2015. ‘Customers can expect what they get now, but a 20% increase in quality.’
The brewery is expected to become operational by early 2021.
Brown and head brewer James Garstang will be producing Posh lager and Work IPA, which are currently being brewed under contract, as well as other ‘nuanced, subtly complex, drinkable beers’.
Brown announced that he’s going to ‘christen’ the kit with a barley wine, ‘with as much grist as I can possibly put in it and then rack that into barrels to forget about…
‘We are undoubtedly going to belt out a rude-boy IPA...’ he continued, ‘and we really want to start exploring dark and amber lagers and porters… One thing is for sure. Forest Road won’t be doing things because they’re fashionable or easy… James and I both appreciate the cradle of tight, subtle yet confident flavor-profiles in beers made for drinking.
