RAF Desborough: Consented
The 250 acre RAF Desborough site, located on a previously developed WWII airfield, is located near Corby, UK. The 49.9MW project is fully consented and brings a variety of biodiversity and recreational benefits to the local region. When operational, the project will save up to 20,000 tons of CO2 per year. Solar PV is a secure and cheap form of renewable energy without the fuel price risk associated with other fuels such as natural gas and coal. Over the course of a year the solar farm is projected to generate sufficient electricity to meet the annual electricity demand of approximately 15,000 homes[1]. The technology offers the prospect of a more diversified energy mix, which in turn can help to reduce the UK’s dependence on foreign oil and gas reserves.
Unanimous planning consent was granted by Kettering Borough Council; project construction is expected to commence by 2018
