Energy master plan revision on its way??…

Md Rafiqul Alam, additional secretary of the Energy Division, said the government now allows private companies to import LNG and is aiming for 5–10% savings through improved efficiency.

He also revealed that the government plans to drill 100 new gas wells by 2030 to reduce reliance on imported LNG. However, he admitted that enforcement of energy laws remains inadequate.

Md Jahidul Islam, joint secretary of the Power Division, said 27% of the country's total energy goes to industry, which is expected to rise to 40% by 2050. He said the government will soon revise its energy master plan and urged industries to adopt more efficient machinery.

Petrobangla General Manager Md Imam Uddin Sheikh reported a daily gas shortfall of 900 million cubic feet. He encouraged factories to relocate into industrial zones to make supply and distribution more manageable.

Shamim Ahmed, president of the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association, called for LNG import permissions for the private sector, and for an expanded offshore gas exploration strategy. He also urged for a dedicated national energy efficiency policy.

This article just demonstrates the fragility and reliability of import fuels……they have everything against them!!….how the heck is this country going to stop this rot by swerving the loans and import dependency?……it has to use its domestic resources pronto……..China is not going to invest a penny in Bangladesh until they get signed off to sort the domestic resources and infrastructure

It gives me a headache reading tons of green lobby posts on the net,Bangladesh “needs”…to transition to renewable to save itself from rising sea levels 😂😂….Rizwana Hasan is out with the begging bowl less than 48hrs after a botched UN reparations law for developed economies rising these sea levels and trying to make them pay up….!!

All these articles and tree hugging ministers are on the same carousel, there is one thing in common……this transition will use other peoples money because the country has got no spare cash and imho will never have a nickel unless it rejects this approach…

There is room for this green crap,tons of room to satisfy the nutters that need it,but to get Bangladesh on its feet it needs to stop the begging and borrowing and use it’s free pass for domestic resources and ramp up the fossil fuel baseload

Vice Chair of the National Consensus Commission Prof Ali Riaz on Sunday said the ongoing dialogue on state reforms must conclude by July 31 under any circumstances.

“We must finish this process (of reform discussion) by July 31 by any means. There is no alternative,” he said while presiding over the 19th-day session of the second-round dialogue between the NCC and political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

Three issues — formation of a police commission, fundamental principles of the State and expansion of basic rights of the citizens — are being discussed on Sunday.

The NCC Vice Chair said there has been a consensus on 10 of the eighteen key agenda items discussed so far, although notes of dissent were also recorded in some cases. “Seven other issues have been extensively discussed but not yet resolved. We are close to making decisions on those,” he said.

Mentioning that one of them has been referred to the Commission for a final decision, he said adding that the Commission will announce its decision on that as soon as possible.

Besides, three other reform issues have not been placed for discussion yet, said Prof Riaz.

Talking about Sunday's agenda, he said three issues have been placed for discussion. Among them, the formation of a police commission is quite a new issue.

This is the first time I’ve seen bnp actually talk about their energy plans,fair shout it was under the Hasina regime and the article is august 2022 but it’s the same minister Fakrul who is heading the party today,it follows the lines of the 31 point plan but it is actually coming from the minister’s mouth

The party plans the cancellation of all contracts signed with quick rental power plants, Fakhrul said, adding that power plants will be built through fully transparent international tenders.

It will draw up medium- and long-term plans for setting up power plants and transmission and distribution lines as per the demand, he said.

He further said that a proper exploration and extraction of the country’s natural and mineral resources will be ensured.

The BNP will ensure training local engineers and developing power- and energy-related organisations using modern technology, the party secretary general said, adding that measures will be taken to extract minerals from prospective gas and petroleum sites as well as from the Bay of Bengal.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday called for holding a parliamentary election without delay to restore democracy in the country.

“We must urgently return to the democratic process. People’s representatives must be elected to Parliament and reforms must come through democratic means,” he said at a book launch at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka.

The book, Economy, Governance and Power: A Portrait of Everyday Life, was authored by economist and former caretaker government adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman.

Fakhrul said that genuine reforms are not possible without a democratically elected government.

“Reforms cannot be imposed forcefully. Democratic practices must not be delayed in their name,” he said.

Citing worsening corruption, he claimed that good governance is absent.

“A businessman who once paid Tk1 lakh in bribes now pays Tk5 lakh. Nothing has changed, not even the police,” he said.

He warned of potential economic setbacks due to global shifts, such as US tariffs under President Donald Trump, urging all political parties to act in the public interest.

Interesting article,electoral commission chief says the format for the election will follow the old rules as the constitution hasn’t changed for that item!……he specifies 2 months required to announce the date!!……
