I personally think this is the biggest news this weekend so far……ditching imported fuel…..I’m going with renewable as I think projects like the GCM solar park post coal extraction are gonna be a winner…….

This guy is nearly there with the answer to Bangladesh energy crisis but for some reason he’s not quite mentioning the home grown coal he is an advocate of!!……

I do feel for the Bangladeshi community……screwed for years by the very people they should trust to implement the best decisions for the country, then just when you think things are about to change nature throw’s everything at the country!!….with maybe a little help from a disgruntled India opening their dams??…….very sad

That being said ,every month nothing is done regarding using own resources is itself a crime against the impoverished Bangla community……..no excuses now looking forward,the back handers and brown envelopes have stopped for awhile….time for action,basic agriculture on these potential mining/mineral sites provides very little towards gdp and acquisitions of the land can provide a much needed injection of wealth into the community??

Looked over quiet a few old articles this morning featuring quotes by the new resources minister Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan,one thing stands out in his comments going back as far as 2019….lots of articles featuring this guy,very prominent and respected speaker

The initiative taken for offshore exploration will also take some time. If success is not met by 2031 the energy system will be exclusively dependent on imported primary fuel. We are not sure how industrialization will be possible in that situation. Managing environmental impacts and finding ways around investment challenges by exploring and exploiting own coal may reduce import dependency considerably. Domestic coal will reduce the cost of generation than imported coal.

It would not be fair to expect the interim government to cure all viral infections in the energy sector. We expect the

Speedy Supply of Power and Energy (Special Provision) Act 2010 to be annulled without delay. All contracts under negotiation but not concluded must not proceed any further. However, any such essential for national interest may be exempted. The Board of Directors of all SOEs must be reorganized making these free of absolute control of the ministry. This will facilitate creating transparency and accountability in the sector.

The interim government may consider retiring all liquid fuel-based power plants in the public sector. The tenure of liquid fuel-based power plants of the private sector must not be extended with any excuse. The contracts extended under a no electricity no payment basis may also be reviewed. The contribution of liquid fuel-based power may be reduced to the bare minimum and that of coal and LNG must be increased to reduce the cost of generation.

The outstanding bills in the energy sector amount to approximately US$5 billion, leading to power generation issues, load-shedding, and operational challenges for industries. The shift from domestic to imported fuel has exacerbated the crisis, with imported fuel now contributing 50% of the energy supply. The present situation is a consequence of the lack of appropriate planning or ignoring the plans over the past 16 years. Despite calls from local experts to explore domestic resources, progress has been slow. The interim government faces pressure to reform policies and reduce import dependency.

Again, as energy planners wilfully chose to divert energy sourcing from national to international at the expense of sustained exploration of own natural resources and concentrating on an import-driven fuel supply, external shocks like a war in Europe pushed the production cost of energy through the roof. None of this helps the present government though because it is now burdened with multi-billion-dollar debt in foreign currency because these energy supplies have to be paid in foreign exchange.

The Bangla army is the sleeping giant in all these politics,they stopped the support for Hasina and hours later she’s in a helicopter being flown out the country,Yunus has the support of the army at the moment?…..who supplies every bit of Bangladesh military hardware?….china…!!…..I think the military will steer this political situation which ever way China wants……my opinion of course

Just a thought…..Hasina goes to China looking for cash support and gets snubbed,a month later it’s all over and she’s banished…..china sits back and smiles,Yunis gets appointed to rip apart the remaining Awami league ministers/supporters and exposes a massive black hole of corruption that nobody noticed before!!……bubbling in the background while Yunis is cleaning up ,china is putting the time in with the BNP top brass……now I’m not a betting man but I wouldn’t like to bet against the BNP comfortably walking into power (they have already said to Yunus there’s no hurry)….then China would pile in with investment?

BNP potentially looking like the next govt unless this cuckoo parliament morphs into something supportable?……..BNP/China comfortable partners…..in turn BNP/China had mutual interests with GCM……….

I think 75% of the economy revolves around textiles,that needs a very reliable power supply,if the energy was home grown wholesale electricity costs would come down,profits at the textile mills would rise and wages should rise accordingly if the greed and corruption is chopped out…..living standards increase,reliable electricity and clean water for all…..that’s a blooming good start?
