Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has dismissed discussions of a growing distance between his party and BNP following the fall of the Awami League government, calling them baseless.

Speaking at a party workers' meeting at Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Park in Meherpur, Parwar clarified that Jamaat and BNP share a longstanding alliance.

"BNP is our ally. We have together fought the 'fascist' regime," he said.

He added, "Our relations with BNP remain exactly as they were before. Those suggesting otherwise are simply spreading rumours."

There has been a slight change in Jamaat's earlier stance of not holding elections before reforms.

The secretary general said while they still seek reforms, they do not intend to give the government much time to act.

In order to overcome this situation, I feel the following steps must be adopted. 1. Instead of the head of government, an honest and professional full minister should be placed in charge of the power, energy and mineral resources ministry. 2. The Quick Enhancement of Electricity and Energy Supply (Special Provisions) Act 2010 must be annulled immediately and all procurement in the sector must be done through open competition. 3. In order to cut down on fuel import, new gas fields must be explored and the use of renewable energy must be increased. 4. The coal policy must be finalised to use the country's coal resources on a priority basis. 5. LNG plants must be set up on land to procure LNG through floating vessels. 6. Rental, quick rental projects must not be renewed. 7. The private sector must be involved in the power generation through MPP instead of IPP. 8. The capacity of the private power plants must be determined by means of neutral capacity tests. 9. In order to avoid grid failure, the national grid dispatch centre including AGC procurement must be modernised. 10. The validity of the foreign power supply agreements must be checked. 11. A master plan must be formulated and followed for the integrated development of the primary energy, power generation, transmission and distribution system.

Yunus will have more than this on his plate soon……the money is drying up,he’s saddled the country with more loans in the last 100 days and he keeps peeking over his shoulder just casually mentioning the students trying to keep them onside….students are relatively easily manipulated…..they tend to lack the skepticism and cynicism of older generations, and tend to willingly swallow propaganda…..they tend to see things in black and white terms and not in the shades of grey that exist in the real World……so imho if they smell a better promise they will be in the streets in a flash to out Yunus?

That said, the interim government is now 100 days old, but the chaos and confusion seem to be rising by the day. A prolonged social, labour, and political unrest undermine the business environment, erode investor confidence and hamper job creation. Instability will persist as long as job security remains uncertain. Many, therefore, think that the government must find a way to stabilise the political environment by putting forward a clear roadmap for free and fair elections.
