Share buy backs are not intended to be a short term thing. Over time it will return value to share holders as future profits are split between less people

graham - They've been awarded shares, and sold a small proportion to cover the tax implications of receiving them.

They've spent £1.5mil of the £75mil of the first tranche yesterday in the 1.4s.

They're likely to do similar every day for the next 50 trading days which will average out the buy price

Peteret - And that is why they only bought just over a million shares back yesterday. The 75 million shares in the first tranche will be bought back over a period of weeks. You might not get them all at the best price, but you also won't get them all at the worst price. Its called cost averaging and is a very standard thing

Definitely not complaining about that. This keeping the price down is not having any effect on me

I disagree Ben.

The fundraise was to be able to buy up land super cheap at the start of lockdown. To all intents and purposes what they're doing with the buy back is paying off that money (Consider it like a loan repayment)

To be fair my buys are usually not big round numbers :(

Yes it would be nice to have the special but don't forget they did a placing for £0.5bil during lockdown. The 150million shares in this buyback program is for about 40% of what was issued in that placing.

Its just a bit of a clean up and makes each of us slightly larger shareholders than we were before the buyback

Spades - I'm with you on that. This has always been a long term hold for me as my average isn't as good as some people.

However i'm patient to wait until at least 2025 with this holding. Its currently a reasonably large percentage of my portfolio so am not not adding at the moment, however once i've bolstered other holdings I may well look at adding more. If i don't get more i'm not going to be disappointed as i have more than enough.

For me the potential upside is many multiples of the potential downside from here so its a bit of a no brainer for me to just leave it sitting, especially as a large proportion of my holding is tucked away nicely in my SIPP
