@jimini Great post ...and a stroll through your history proves you know your stuff.... Can you let us newbies know what happens to shares if the CVA happens.... do they just become null and void?
You seemed to have called it right and have got the receipts too :-)
Thanks for your insights !
Hoi Sheltie .... I love my SD and I'm only 60 ...... Oh ... yep ... but wait .... I'm a young 60 :-)
On another note... My friends son taught english in Tokyo and always laughed at my SD stuff....says it's not even grammatically correct and there are no such words in Japanese :-)
I still luv their stuff though !
Just anthernoob.... That's how I'm reading this.... Back in September with that article, the fact he was discussing it in public and saying it wasn't his intention meant it had been broached.
The BI reports would have shown their xmas trading and 1/4 results were bad.... My thoughts are board were considering CVA in Jan and JD stepped in to see if he could put together rescue and if he hadn't CVA would be in progress now..... hmmmm
Yep Sheltie.... expensive larf ...but larf it is :-) .... What happens in CVA.... My research (hahahahahah I mean quick google) leads me to believe the company still trades and shareholders still exist.... am I being dumb here? Do they become worthless .....orrrrr .... CVA lasts for x years and shares still have value, although not traded?

Hi All,
for balance (and my education) I'd be interested in any views.
Route 1) Someone helpfully described what would happen to shares in TO..... So JD offers... yadda yadda Money appears in our accounts (Wahhooo Toffers is right along x)
Route 2) JD only has to say whether he IS GOING to offer by 1st March. Lets pretend he says he is not. SP drops to 15p. SD is now vulnerable to a hostile TO.... except JD (and co) have hoovered up loads of shares to make this impossible unless the offer is so good the board cannot refuse (lets say £3+ not gonna happen but hey ho....and Toffers is right again WaHOO).... but if no/low offers come in and JD is blocker does this not mean SD is delivered to him cheap in CVA. So could this be his hedge and make a CVA more likely.
MQI - what happens to the shares after /in CVA
Thanks - and please feel free to point out mistakes, niave assumptions, or just plain stupidity..... it's all learning :-)
I think there will be one or two more for peanuts again.... I can only think this is mandatory for regulatory reasons and are admin for finding/moving shares around interested parties internally.
Every 8.3 brings a rush .... this is soooo much heaalthier then poker.... ummmm or not hahaha
:-) .... I'll take that as a compliment Toffers x
Yes ...I'm a glass half full person..... and I'm playing around with my pension fund and I'm a newbie.... all true. I stumbled upon SD as described in my earlier posts and kept avg down.... partly cause I wear my SD coat everyday training and walking dogs :-).... anywhoooo I then stumbled upon this BB and got sucked into multi bagging and making loads. It was only when I visualised my portfolio (I'm Data BI by trade) that I saw SD was somehow my largest holding !.... hence rationlised and rebalanced.... took the money and spread it around (Unilever and VOD had massive dips and they are lonnngggg for me with great divs).... also today I stumbled upon genus so stuck a chunk of SD money in there... that should show you my attitude to risk hahahaah.... anywhoooo again.... holding enough folding to dip in and out o0f SD.... I love their clothes and am a customer.... do i want them to survive and thrive.... I think they will CVA or not and I will continue to buy their products.... do I want to risk my semi retirment and ability to train and walk dogs based on JD.... no thanks.... whatever happens I'm up ... maybe a little maybe a lot.... but I sincerly hope a lot and I hope you are up loads too
xxx
It's the start of the sentence you quoted "I have done the decent and honest thing here"..... and yes .... he did say he had DONE the decent and honest thing .... context is everything..... and it MAY be the decent and honest thing for the majority of his employees to CVA..... or it MAY NOT....
but it remains a option for now
@toffers I know you are and it is NOT a given.... what opened my eyes is the hedge in the RNS where they went long on 9m and shorted 1m. Thats the clever thing to do. He clearly stated it WAS not his intention... but he also clearly stated it was an easy thing to do. My guess, as you've said many times, is we won't know until 1st march.....
Sooo... Im hedging.... taking profit where I can but leaving an overall long position. If he offers at £1+.... wahoooo.... if he CVAs then in £000s up.... not many £000s but some and enough to o keep my SIPP in double digits % performance
From the same article 5 months ago - ".... and it admitted when releasing its recent annual results that there remains uncertainty around its ability to continue as a going concern." Also - "....he said that he didn't think the company would still be around if he hadn't come back " And - ".... It is very easy to go out and CVA a company" and finally "....I will be very happy when Oxford Street sorts itself out" except Oxford street haven't sorted themselves out and remain in battle between two councils
I'm not being negative.... just balanced.... all these are from the same article you have quoted multiple times.... context is everything
The decent and honest think is for 1) his family 2) his employees
That means hopefully taking back the company private. BUTTTT there is a painful journey ahead and he HAS to think of the greater good.
That might mean CVA and building from a pared back but solid foundation ..... OOORRRR.... might be leveraging and going big guns.... but any PE will want their pound of flesh
Hence my question marks.... I have lingering doubts.... I'm holding a bit back but took my profits.... and just dipped in at 35 again.... which i will cash out at 40+... but the rest I will leave either to lose (avg 26p) or reap :-)
but no one knows... I think not even JD at the moment
ARRggghhhh .... "feel" positive and want to add .... butttttt ... I don't want to average up .... I want to average down ..... arrrggghhhh.... CAn't take it any more.... off to walk the dogs and see what has happened on my return :-)
GOOD LUCK ALL x
