EV will be great in the future im sure, buts its just that in the future, current batteries are just not good enough.. I have a family member at board level in a specialist listed battery tech company who laughs when the whole ev issue comes up in conversation, if anyone should be driving one he should - but he doesnt. id love to buy one, the top Tesla looks the dogs but the range/battery longlevity and the expense of using a charge point away from home (30p/kwh) just keeps them restricted as city cars. Roll on 2040 when my old banger will be worth a fortune.

in truth none of the novices or experts really know billy, all just an educated gamble in essence for us all - wish id sold my 12000 rdsb when they were �28 though and bought back, hindsight eh. My view long term oil has some years to go, just dont buy into all this electric car stuff, battery tech isnt there yet.

something akin to this (maybe even the same) is currently at play in the English channel. A port near me has recently completed a multi million pound contract fitting a 'scrubber' (particulate filter) to the funnel system on a channel ferry to reduce the particles omitted. i was told it was either that or the ferry couldnt be used anymore in the channel.

am not worried personally about the debt load the company is currently carrying particularly billy, cheap rates as you say at the present and such can offer some great options, i pulled a right flanker on two banks a few years ago but thats another story. I just like to understand what the actual numbers are and where its being booked though, dont like creative accounting that i dont understand. As for the capital payment/divvy, im just doing some calcs with my specific situation, but in general its looking like its best to hold glen outside of Isa's instead of other income/proper divvy earners at the moment if you pay divvy tax. (im looking at moving some rdsb in and glen out of my isa's). If a regular trader rather than a LTH then maybe not such a good idea. This is because any "return of capital" received is excluded from the �2k divvy limit (morals aside) so reducing the tax bill. Obviously you may end up building up a CG charge as glen share prices (hopefully) increase, but can move those over in 20k chunks each tax year. obviously though each to their own and DYOR.

dont get me wrong i think foreign aid if well spent is good, maybe not as much when we have our basics like nhs, etc struggling, but i do think that rather than dish out cash to be spirited away by corrupt recipients maybe we should send uk produced items of use instead - so jcb's, uk food, expertise etc. This would effectively support our own industries at the same time as help others, so two winners. id like to understand the glen debt position better, a few weeks back it was circa �10b, now we find its likely to be �30b because of creative figure juggling. To my simple mind money owing is a debt period, its not right to call it a banana with a different label.

all our local councillors are older than time itself, really need some savvy younger more intouch blood to start sorting it all out and take control back. just a shame that anybody in say their 40-50's have to work their nuts off to pay the daily bills and so cant commit the time. my local town has 20,000 inhabitants, and the morons have just employed a 'festival organiser' for gods sake, we have one little one a year! money for old rope.

ifonly, me too. �230/month for me, barstewards put it up loads each year yet you get less and less for it. Local council only cut the verges twice a year down here, need a machete just to go to the postbox.

Im straight as they come and dont want hmrc on my back - enjoyed that privalige once before (very unpleasent and exonerated). if its not due though then im keeping it, im no charity, just so her majestys government can give it away as more foreign aid or bombs duck houses or eu leaving penalties etc. I'll keep looking but it sounds more and more cosha to me from what im reading.

maybe its a tad like creative accounting and not Cliff Richards standard OP but with the increase in tax we now pay on dividends that we never used to then im happy enough to retain it and use for my families benifit, at least it'll offset some of the 7.5% i pay on the rest of my divvies over the 2k limit, i bet our MP's would keep it too! Im interested in why Glen are actually paying this way mind. All the write ups suggest its for companies that in general cannot afford to pay their divis from profits - i thought Glen is awash with cash? Maybe its because Ivan is UK tax resident or something and fancies dodging the gazzillions of either divi or CG tax he'd have to pay - and if thats correct then i completely agree, with his millions he should pay something.

jmo have found a link regarding glencore from an earlier time that is clearly a cut/paste email from HL themselves when asked the same question previously. Quite enlightening, it totally contradicts what i was told yesterday about CG tax, which it appears to say it due, instead of divi tax. A right PITA as the CG rates are higher. totally agree Jmo, im still not 100% convinced hence putting it out there for more clever people than me to see if this has been done before, i've never heard of anything like it and it sits uncomfortably with me also. I do still have the same holding and can now see how HL have put the cash into my pot having had it run through screen by screen. I suppose its simpliest description could be a partial refund. Just wonder how other platforms/brokers have dealt with it?
