matlot. the business i work in is a monopoly, with a never ending amount of maintenance work as a consequence. Kiers are contracted to that many hours to try and keep up, but alas, kiers under staff the amount of physical bodies - leaving the guys to sweat hard to ensure the contracted work is completed with extra hours, either standby or OT. They truly are just pawns the poor lads who get leaned on quite a bit, with the Kier leadership taking a very small margin on the contract overall whilst looking the other way.

i work closely with Kiers, they are the company i work fors workforce.

All the plant and vehicles Kiers use at my depot are old and knackered, and the blokes (who are fantastic) all work for a pittence, but they do a huge amount of standard hours a week (55) and then standby and overtime on top of that. This inflates their wages to good figures - but the consequences on the blokes themselves are high.

Best contractors i have every worked with in my career, hopefully any fallout with all this doesnt affect the guys on the ground.

jt, couldnt agree more, its one of the two reasons i left if im honest. Saw my 'posh' home town change for the worse so much since my childhood, it wasnt the same anymore so time to move away.
