The EU must "urgently clarify its intentions" after it brought in export controls on Covid vaccines to Northern Ireland, Boris Johnson has said.

The PM said the bloc must explain what it plans to do to ensure it honours its commitments to Northern Ireland.

It comes amid an escalating row between the EU and vaccine producer AstraZeneca over delivery shortfalls.

The EU said the move was "justified" to avert problems caused by a lack of vaccine supply.

Under the Brexit deal, all products should be exported from the EU to Northern Ireland without checks.

But the EU believed this could be used to circumvent export controls, with Northern Ireland becoming a backdoor for EU vaccines to be sent to the wider UK.

On Friday, the bloc invoked Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol which allows parts of the deal to be unilaterally overridden.

In a new regulation the European Commission states: "This is justified as a safeguard measure pursuant to Article 16 of that Protocol in order to avert serious societal difficulties due to a lack of supply threatening to disturb the orderly implementation of the vaccination campaigns in the Member States."

The Northern Ireland Protocol is a special deal to prevent the re-emergence of a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol, agreed in the original withdrawal agreement, is essentially a safeguard that would allow the UK or EU to act unilaterally if measures imposed as a result of the protocol are deemed to be causing "serious economic, societal or environmental difficulties".

Robinhood Markets, the trading app that’s popular with investors behind some of this month’s wildest stock swings, has drawn down some of its credit lines with banks, according to people with knowledge of the matter, Bloomberg News reports.

The firm has tapped at least several hundred million dollars, one of the people said. Lenders include JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. A representative for Robinhood declined to comment.

"“Unfortunately, it’s definitely not a one-off thing,” said Randy Frederick, vice president of trading and derivatives at the Schwab Center for Financial Research. “The type of activity that drove that higher, I believe, has caused people to try to duplicate that in other names.”"

Breaking news; "Robinhood will allow limited buying of restricted securities Friday, GameStop jumps after hours"

"Shares of GameStop, AMC and others jumped in extended trading on Thursday after Robinhood said it will resume limited trading of previously restricted securities on Friday.

“Starting tomorrow, we plan to allow limited buys of these securities. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and may make adjustments as needed,” Robinhood said in a statement.

GameStop shares rebounded in after hours trading following the Robinhood decision. The stock gained 28% to trade at $247 in after hours trading, after closing down 44% at $193.60 during regular hours Thursday.

The company said their decision to restrict trading -- which angered many users -- was in order to comply with capital requirements mandated by the SEC for broker dealers."
