All those barrels and it still made a loss...
Talking of energy , there is a new housing estate being built nearby, solar panels on all houses...But you see houses with 7 panels, leaving space for the 8th, adding the missing panels would reduce the houses demand on the grid and over the whole estate significantly increase production back to the grid..
A lot of the houses are designed with east/west face roofs rather than south,, with the panels installed facing east even if the peak of another shades the east side panels, and also placed on east-North-east facing roofs, rather than west-south-west.
The Welsh Gov have a drive to increase energy efficiency on old house, costing Hundreds of Millions per council, while not ensuring new builds maximise solar potential, half measures are fine..
Council erected a new prefab school building, shallow flat roof, facing north and covered every inch with solar panels,,did they mount the building backwards or just not consider the angle of the sun.
That new estate they could fit 10 panels on those that have space, or even more by fitting both east & west facing roofs, consider building all roofs with south facing slopes.. That would increase production to the grid and help reduce the need for solar farms on agricultural land.
As for older houses, a woolly socks, jumper and slippers grant would save a fortune.. A little education on how to dress warm, and stay warm and how to warm up if you feel cold.. And on house humidity control.. My neighbour has just had the house upgraded through an all paid grant... Loft was insulted and plaster boarded, and skimmed ready for painting as was all solid external walls, cavity foam bead filled... It would have been cheaper to pay the heating bill for the next decade or 3 ;)
