RE: LICENCE RENEWAL SPECULATION GROWING BIG TIME21 Feb 2026 06:54
Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - 13/2/2026 The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government, through the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Agency, is conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the cancellation of 14 zircon mining companies' 2025 Work Plans and Budgets (RKAB).
"This is an effort to provide legal certainty, maintain the investment climate, and reorganize mining sector permits to be more orderly and sustainable," explained Acting Head of the Central Kalimantan ESDM Agency, Sutoyo, in Palangka Raya on Saturday.
Sutoyo explained that the previous cancellations were based on the results of periodic evaluations that found non-compliance with technical and administrative provisions.
In fact, several companies are reportedly under the surveillance of Law Enforcement Officers (APH), both at the regional and central levels.
"The first and foremost reason for the cancellation, I am certain, is that they failed to comply with applicable regulations," he said.
The evaluation was conducted as a follow-up to the directive of Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran, following numerous complaints received from business owners and the public affected by the suspension of mining operations.
"Many companies and the public have complained to the governor, deputy governor, regional secretary, and we at the agency. We've also received written letters and social media posts," said Sutoyo.
Therefore, the Governor has ordered the immediate formulation of a solution that remains within the legal framework.
An integrated team involving various regional agencies is now working to develop strategic steps to clarify the status of the 14 companies.
"We were summoned yesterday by the Governor to meet to find a solution for the cancellation of the 14 RKABs," he explained.
He explained that the Energy and Mineral Resources Agency, along with the integrated team, has held discussions and coordination meetings, and taken various steps to ensure certainty in the near future, and that the canceled RKABs can be reinstated in accordance with applicable rights and regulations.
Furthermore, the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government will write to the relevant ministries to synchronize data and confirm the legal status of each company.
The regional government emphasized that if the RKAB is reactivated, the company must be completely free from legal issues and ready to implement good mining practices.
Sutoyo also emphasized that the governor's policy does not only target one specific commodity, but encompasses all mining permits that have the potential to cause environmental damage.
