The on-going increase in the SP has little if anything to do with Phil Bentley but is rather related to the TO rumours that publicly surfaced earlier this month. Looking at the value of trading in CWC for the month of November I noticed that is was three times the norm and for December it is going to be four times the norm. (Source - the Stock Exchange) I suspect the Market knows a lot more about the TO rumours than small private investors do and it is because there is some substance to the TO talk that we are seeing this amazing SP increase. As foggy says, when first demerged the SP was about 60p so there is a way to go yet. Happy New Year all and good luck.
Yes, upwards again whilst the FTSE is generally down a bit including some losses on VOD and BSY where there have also been TO rumours. I have been scouring the web for more news but can't find anything new for CWC anywhere. The on-going increase has to be justified by something solid.
Can't agree with your comment sorry. I have followed CWC avidly since its creation following demerger and however competent Phil Bently may be, he cannot surpass the value Tony Rice has been to the company who with his team has delivered what is today a very attractive company. If you look at the 'top stories' on the CWC homepage regarding the Results, Products, Governance and History of the company they amount to one big advert to prospective buyers. I do belive that next year CWC (sadly) will be no longer be but the buy-out price will be close to 80p. Even if I'm wrong, I will still be a happy holder of the shares for the good value and dependable income they generate. Merry Xmas everyone and good luck.
Nicely put, spot on.
I have noticed that news has been coming out of the CWC Media dept pretty thick and fast recently but it's all been 'low level' stuff. The sceptic in me thinks this is just a bit of a tactic to deflect attention from what we really want to know, i.e., who is sizing the company up.
I suppose in the scheme of things CWC isn't a big fish and so doesn't warrant the column inches in the financial pages VOD does, for example. Although news seems to have dried up at the moment it is of interest that the largest value of daily trading in CWC shares last week was on Friday. So while there is nothing extra in the public domain, for sure things are going on behind the scenes. Perhaps bigrobbo will be proved right and a bid sneaked in Monday or Tuesday. Would make a nice Christmas present so please Santa! GLA
Found this article about AT&T's expansion ambitions including central America and Europe which of course CWC fits into nicely. The article starts of about a recent AT&T sale. http://seekingalpha.com/article/1907171-at-ts-sale-of-connecticut-wireline-assets-makes-sense?source=google_news
When I look on other sites they show the SP closing down today but here it seems the uncrossing trade has set the closing price. Must admit I don't understand enough about this.
The SP has risen by a significant percentage for 4 straight days and all based on TO rumours, the Company has not released any new financial figures recently that would justify the SP increase. I think if the SP goes up significantly again today a potential bidder, or bidders, will be revealed. This could either come from the Company as Foggy suggests or new revelations in the media and probably late in the day if it comes from the Company. Of course the SP could plummet today rendering all the above just a load of 'Horlicks'! In any event, me thinks Today's the Day!
AT&T, Liberty Global, VOD or America Movil. Take your pick, could be any of them as they are all large enough to buy up CWC from petty cash and are out to expand.
fleccy, On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the volume of trading was far higher thasn normal in CWC shares, by my reckoning 3 or 4 times the normal avaerage. The first press report I saw suggested AT&T were the principal suspects to buy CWC but there were others. What is left of CWC is of course in AT&T's backyard whereas CWC's cable capablities, including a juicy morsal in Monaco, compliment Liberty Global's portfolio. It's not surprising that LG refuted any interest in CWC (they would say that wouldn't they?) but even if they are really not interested then I think a number of other telcos have now woken up to the attractiveness of CWC. The best indicator for the immediate future at the moment may be the volume of trading in CWC shares, if it remains 'up' and we witness large deals then someone somewhere knows something. Good Luck.
Well it must be AT & T who are causing the SP rise, it's risen steadily today.
Been looking across the net for further rumours but unable to find any as yet so would be pleased to see others post something if they know more.
Nice one Robbo. A price of 74p is not unrealistic given the balance sheet, increasing revenues and multiples that were secured when the other bits of the business were sold off. Of course my earlier post identified AT&T as the potential buyer so a bit of a bidding war ain't impossible. Me thinks CWC's last days as a stand alone company are fast approaching and it isn't too late to make a profit here. GLA.
Anyone know what sent the SP up this moring? I trawled the net but could not find any 'good news'.
Was surprised to see this board lit up light a Xmas when I looked, all down the Seychelles deal not completing. Don't think this amounts to much in itself but may suggest a TO of the rest of the company some time in the future may not be easy. The Caribbean operation is just as diverse as Monaco and Islands.
I sent an email question to the panel at today's Interim Results presentation and although my question was not read out during the webcast, Tony Rice graciously sent me a personal reply a few hours later. In his reply he infers that he may not be entirely 'out of company management' and so I for one will watch with interest to see if he secures a role elsewhere. The task of rejuvenating the CWC half of the old Cable & Wireless must have been difficult. Of course, the incumbent Chairman, Sir Richard Lapthorne, is now past 70 and Tony could be being lined up for that role. He would certainly get my vote!
