Doha: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has installed over 300,000 smart meters, achieving about 60 percent of its target, said an official.

“The smart meters project was launched by Kahramaa in 2021, targeted to install 600,000 smart meters replacing the traditional meters,” said Maryam Nasser Al Nama from Kahramaa’s Information Technology Department.

Classic India. Spout for years about 250 million Smarts, 100 million to be in place by 2023 end.
Kick around with 5 million, crowing how well it's going, then change required standards for the fun. They have lost the reason for the rollout. These are simple instruments, measuring flow, with simple methods of communication and disruption if needed. Sounds like Omni was out of date soon after launch. And with SiLabs now needed, to the point JC finally has to admit it, you can forget the hugely inflated unit margins some here believed.

I'm fairly sure most of us can read an RNS by now.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd RNS all state the contract will be Omnimesh. They could have got that wrong though : )

It looks to me like Omni is now outdated and too expensive to upgrade to meet its latest market demands. FG25 clearly sounds like a cost effective, viable option, but with no exclusive rights CC would presumably become a simple re seller. If that's the case, the companies USP is lost.
Perhaps CC need to really think harder about keeping investors, and markets, up to date. This could be very good news, or just confirmation of their expensive tech derailing. Given they read these boards, they might want to kill this opinion, and soon.

So, it appears Omni wasn't the all singing, dancing solution it was cracked up to be.

Even senior staff at CC India are posting this news. It has to be big, not sure why Omni appears bypassed, but an RNS today should clear it up. Then again, this is CC.
