My email to my MP (who is also a Dr)...

Like most I have been impressed with the speed and efficiency of vaccine roll-out in the UK; for this you and your colleagues deserve great credit.

It is the possibility of mutation and the failure to identify and develop more effective treatments which concerns me and I would like to raise with you today.

As a doctor I am confident your experience and that of your colleagues in medicine is one of helplessness. Those who are entering our countries hospitals with coronavirus continue to die at an unacceptable rate. Our hospitals need more help to save those for whom the vaccine has come too late or is not suitable.

I believe interferon treatment as trailed by Synairgen (a British company originating from Southampton University) has showed great promise and yet it appears to have been overlooked by government including omission from the RECOVERY trial.

Are you aware of this treatment?

I sense that medical opinion across the world is starting to recognise that this pandemic will not be defeated by vaccines alone.

In vaccines we are leading the world; here is the opportunity to lead the world by supporting a very promising treatment.

I thank you for your time and would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the treatment and an explanation why Synairgen and other treatments have not been given the attention I think is required.

The government has a taskforce and will I am sure pay close attention to results fro the next study. Globally we have led the way for studying and approving treatments for example dexamethasone.

Sileng, 18 months from now an entire lab will operate to test for covid, one of a number across the UK.
Yes it's clear this is obvious to everyone pal, see im watching the news just now and that is exactly what I am hearing.
I am fairly pessimistic on the impact of vaccines and our return to normality yet this shocked me; hundreds still employed in testing mid 2022.

Friend who has just started a job in a covid testing lab. Asked boss whether there is a plan for them after covid with the remaining time in their 18month contract.
Response was that they expected covid testing to run for this period and beyond.
A silver bullet the vaccine is not.
