What you say is 100% correct , no argument.

It is though , as you also say 'currently ' with some major countries such as China , Saudi Arabia , Iran and a number of others all openly discussing an alternative mainly driven by the way the dollar is being used as a weapon.

This will not be quick but in my opinion the move has started.

Nobody on here is saying 'the whole world' , a gradual drift is what is being discussed away from the dollar and it has l;aready started to happen with many countries now discussing alternatives to the dollar.

In 2009 Gaddafi suggested a gold backed dinar , and he was quickly disposed of.
Ghana , China and the BRICS countries however are in a different league and there is more and more talk from 'these' countries about moving away from 'dollar based' oil transactions.

In theory if this reduces demand for the dollar and increases demand for gold then we could see gold benefit from this payment method as the dollar has done for many years.

The key thing is where will the Uk pound be in all of this , as that is our earning currency.

Just reading some more on this and if the plan works for Ghana and it helps their economy / currency then it may provide the impetus for other countries to do the same and / or moved to a commodity basket suggested by BRICS.

Wider use of gold or a currency / basket which includes gold could give gold a huge boost at the expense of the dollar.

This would be a great development for gold itself , and would say goodbye overvalued dollar.

The Central Bank of Russia (BCR) has kept its key interest rate unchanged at 7.50%, while improving its GDP forecasts for this year.

It now predicts a recession where GDP will fall between 3.5% and 3%, a shallower decline than the range of 6% to 4% the bank forecast last July.

Russia's central bank also thinks that in 2023 Russia will remain in recession with a contraction of between 1 % and 4 % GDP, although it expects the economy to return to growth in the second half of next year.
