While the playbill of this year's ASCO didn't exactly thrill analysts—or some attendees, according to our executive interviews—we found plenty of buzz-worthy bits. Merck's Keytruda posted a 23.2% five-year survival rate in metastatic lung cancer, unthinkable before the dawn of immunotherapies. Merck then joined AstraZeneca to present promising results from their Lynparza therapy, in notoriously recalcitrant pancreatic cancer. Meanwhile, Amgen unveiled the first clinical data from a KRAS inhibitor—only 30 years in the making—and testing maven Grail showed it could detect and locate a dozen different cancers from one blood draw. Looking ahead, we’ll have CRISPR data on the horizon and a new generation of T-cell therapies promising to be the next big thing, but don’t discount the multitude of combination therapies currently inching through the clinic, either—and we’ll see you in Chicago next year.

When top cancer doctors gathered for the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology last weekend, faster detection of the illness was on medics’ minds.

AstraZeneca, the Anglo-Swedish drugmaker, for example, showcased treatments intended to be administered at a much earlier stage, when the disease could still be cured.

However, successful treatment at that stage depends on speedy diagnosis.

A trio of biotech companies are seeking to play their part in faster detection and more effective treatment of this most dreaded disease, scenting the chance both to improve patients’ lives and carve out a path to profitability.

Scancell Holdings

Aim-listed Scancell, which has a market capitalisation of about £20m, has developed two technologies that harness the immune system to fight tumours.

The first, called ImmunoBody, has enabled it to produce a potential vaccine for the treatment of melanoma. Its second platform, Moditope, targets advanced or hard-to-treat cancers. Both have shown considerable promise in early studies.

Cliff Holloway, chief executive, said the company now needed to “translate the exceptional pre-clinical and lab data into clinical results”.

The company’s shares have fallen 64 per cent over the past year, due in part to the delayed start of a US clinical trial for SCIB1, a vaccine candidate generated from the ImmunoBody technology platform. The trial design has been approved by British regulatory authorities, however, and will begin in the UK in the next few weeks.

Morning Hanoi, I spent about four hours yesterday cancelling the appointment, unfortunately still laid low so that should be re appointed maybe till next week.

I"m sure it was a female poster who gave us updates on Southampton? Talking of that UCLH have opened two new entres of excellence too, one for Proton treatment, and one taking patients from St. Barts etc, cardiology is being moved there and it will probably be ranked in the top 5 in Europe, if it isn"t already.

Violin, well a small salary is better than nothing. But I am sticking with this BOD, for many reasons.

As I have said before lets hope the seeds they have sewn will be fruitful , and I don"t think we have very long to find out.

End of June SCIB1 trial starting, end of June current agreement with BioNTech is up, news from Karolinska?? location and numbers of patients in trial, dosing and endpoints, updates on MOD1 and SCIB2 trials, IND Approval for U.S.A, under the watchful eye of Keith Flaherty?? , so many real avenues of real news and as we approach the first patient to be injected on the SCIB 1 trial many of us are very excited. Whatever the reasons for delays, it has been too long out of trials, but when we consider the relationships with ISA, Oncimmune, Amplivant etc and testing with Keytruda think we are about as ready to go now as has ever has been. We get the one chance with Keytruda as things stand financially, oh for a white knight to provide what we as individuals cannot.

I wonder why he Chinese Patent has still not been Approved, will harly be a big inflection point, but the whole Chinese situation could have a twist of the tail too. And then there is huge scope for left field news, Funding is an issue that by August/Sept will have to be addressed, just hoping as ever we can return to double figures before doing so. And violin, think its fair to say not one entity took those 21m shares, no TR1s, just absorbed by buying in incredible volumes, showing the support of largely PIs in our battle to arrive at a M/Cap which reflects in to some degree the value in our IP waiting to be released.

Two posters bombarbed us with deadlines of end May which was the latest we would hear about that, May has long passed, did it ever exist?? but it certainly added to the flames around CF selling. Designed to cause panic, whils PIs absorbed the shares quietly. Would be a change for those supporting that to succintly express what they claimed rather than ignore every question directed at them, with the fictitious deadlines never defended. Just a shame as I have said before that I keep in touch far less with so many good posters, not a question of choice or not, just it took a lot of time doing that, time i struggle to find now, but in the few conversations we still have an air of positivity is very much at the fore and we have many reasons to think that, lets hope we are right. Forget the financial rewards they are huge but what about the patients in last chance saloons?? they are the most important people of all.

Till tomorrow, and leading into week beginning 10th June, we are edging closer., just imagine the work being devoted to that. Night guys, catch yer tomorrow, from our fundamentals remember why we are here and what it has taken to get here, for that yes i back the BOD, imho
