Melanoma stage Description
Stage 0 (otherwise known as 'in-situ') Cancer cells located in the top layer of skin. Melanoma cells are contained in the area in which they started to develop and have not grown into deeper layers of the skin.

Good morning all, was there not an article posted this week saying just 3% of cancer patients ever enrol for a clinical trial??

Clinical trials are critical to developing new therapies and improving existing regimens for better efficacy and safety.1 Clinical trials can only be conducted if they enroll sufficient numbers of patients, and the more rapid the accrual, the sooner results can be collected and analyzed, and, ultimately, translated to the clinical setting. However, it has been estimated that almost 39% of trials terminated prematurely were due to lack of accrual.2 It is also estimated that just 8% of patients with cancer participate in clinical trials.2

Given the continued need for better therapies for patients with cancer, and the difficulty with enrolling patients, it is important to understand why participation rates have historically been low.

A meta-analysis of 13 studies (representing 8883 patients) conducted in the academic and community settings identified structural and clinical barriers as the primary causes of low levels of patient participation in clinical trials.1 In the analysis, 56% of patients were unable to participate in a clinical trial because there were none available for their cancer type or stage. Of the remaining patients, 22% did not meet eligibility criteria for the available trials and 15% who were eligible did not enroll. Ultimately, 8% of the patients represented across the 13 studies enrolled in clinical trials. Interestingly, enrollment was higher at academic institutions (16%) compared with the community setting (7%; P <.001), with no differences in eligibility and non-enrollment. There were fewer trials available at the community centers, although the result was not determined to be significant.

Barriers to Clinical Trial Enrollment

There are multiple barriers that prevent clinical trial enrollment. The meta-analysis demonstrated that trial availability and eligibility criteria are major barriers.1 Other barriers include patient- or physician-related factors.

Hi Chester, as you say news will come and also think by New Year is realistic.

Would certainly be taken as confidence boosting news by me if Flaherty is still in the frame, after all this time, so yes I hope CH can answer that. Whilst another very low volume week last week grateful we firmed a bit north of 5p. ATB

Dropped an e-mail off to CH yesterday, asking whether Keith Flaherty was down to be Pricipal Investigator the SCIB1 Combo Trial had we of got the Approval through from the FDA. Or indeed if we can reapply for the IND will he still be able to fulfill that position......................

Afternoon to you, to an end of another week, just under seven weeks to go to Xmas, where does the time go??

Cliff as you know, I would never even think of asking you a question that you cannot respond to, i.e. inside information, but there is something I would like to ask, which just perhaps you can respond to.

At the time the SCIB1 trial was announced, some four years ago, Keith Flaherty was down to be the Principle Investigator of Trial, which we all found exciting.. Can you tell me going back to January whilst awaiting the Approval for IND at the time we received Approval from the Regulatory body and Ethics Committee whether that would still be the case?? and indeed now if we were able to resubmit an IND would he still be involved in the trial??

Having seen so much data in the previous four years I think many of us would find that a major show of confidence in the trial if he was, and look forward to receiving your reply.

Well MMs dropped the 5.1 and will take up to 160k at 5.2011 now.

No, no great surprise, but we have seen 500k more buys than sells this week, with no news either, and the actual bid is up from 5.03 to 5.2011.

As I was saying yesterday it seems to me sellers are looking for more than 5.20 and buyers less than 5.40 ATM, so we have an impasse. Still we have seen a few £5k buys this week, and trust our seller (I believe, we have one) is looking for a few more before parting with their shares above the 5.03 they took on Friday.

Up to 130k now at 5.2011, 140k/150k at 5.1

Yeah, it would speak volumes after four years if he still feels positive about outcomes after being privy to a lot of data in that time. His contacts alone with Big Pharma would be priceless.

Bermuda, is it fair to presume that Scancell still felt Approval would come within a couple of months after Approval,from regulation and ethics commitees bodies??

I think you mentioned recently that you weren"t sure whether Keith Flaherty would be Principle Investigator of trial, was that just a thought, as I would have thought Scancell knew at that time who would be? Might just drop CH a line whether that was/is the plan when/ if it comes to resubmitting for the IND or just whether he was going to be at the time they were waiting for Approval

Just a few days ago 189k shares were sold at 5.03 and three treeshakes later (today) , dummy sells showing 5.125 and moving to 5.20, repeat three times, MMs only able to get 15k sells, in the process, whilst on the ask, buyers equally scarce at paying 5.40 or over. Would have gladly taken 5.20/5,40 Monday morning with no news. Till tomorrow GN
