Good find IB! Hopefully the strategic discussions will turn into actionable plans at some point?
Is this what you wanted?
“ A feature in Portuguese newspaper Público on Aurora's shareholder Northvolt's first gigafactory, in Northern Sweden. Northvolt aims to produce batteries with a 90% reduction in emissions, compared with Asian competitors. To achieve its goals, Northvolt counts on Aurora's lithium hydroxide – a critical material for the lithium-ion battery manufacturing industry. The gigafactory factory attracted a stream of qualified workers to Skellefteå, where it is located, reviving local life and promoting new businesses.”

“ In the Swedish gigafactory, where Northvolt is waiting for lithium from Portugal
The first European gigafactory began producing lithium-ion batteries at the end of 2021. The commitment is to reduce emissions by 90% when compared to the manufacture of a Chinese battery.

Northvolt's lithium-ion battery factory - Northvolt Ett - came to give a second life to 500 hectares of industrial land in the town of Bergsbyn, municipality of Skellefteå, Northern Sweden, just over an hour by plane from Stockholm and about two and a half hours by car from Haparanda, where the Tornio River marks the border with Finland.
Are they laying out this criteria because they don’t want to be shackled to an overly slow nascent European lithium mining industry?
Somewhat contradictory but it would seem that SAV would meet most of the conditions? What constitutes “significant mining works”? Drill core samples with lab assessments? Feasibility studies - PFS or DFS? They don’t mention proximity to the refinery but I would have thought that would count for something? Sourcing timelines is probably where we are weakest until of course APA lay the golden egg?
I’m sure that approval is going to happen. We just need to be prepared for a big show of dissent from the protestors - demonstrations, occupations, spurious legal challenges, sightings of the Iberian flying mole etc.
The only question mark for me is the inevitable challenge by protest groups that consultation has not been to their satisfaction leading to further delays.
Quite a nice strategic summary which I haven’t seen before but joins the dots very nicely.
“ Europe's 1st Lithium refinery in Portugal?
Savannah and Galp, in a consortium with over 15 entities, applied for the funds foreseen in the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) to proceed with a Lithium refinery in Portugal. Under the motto “Agenda CVB - Lithium Batteries Value Chain in Portugal”, the proposal of 981 million euros has moved on to the 2nd evaluation phase and intends to create in Portugal “a lithium hub covering the entire value chain of lithium batteries, from extraction, refining, cathode production, cells, battery assembly and battery recycling”. To advance this objective of developing the lithium value chain in Portugal, Galp announced a partnership with the Swedish company Northvolt, which together promise to invest around 700 million euros in what is intended to be the largest and most sustainable Europe's lithium conversion plant, with an initial annual production capacity of up to 35,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide for batteries.
battery cluster
With Savannah among the group of founders, in June 2021 in Portugal, the Battery Cluster, called “BATpower”, was created with the aim of maximizing Portugal’s potential throughout the battery value chain in areas such as refining and recycling, component manufacturing, cells, control electronics and complete batteries, applications, integration and certification. Galp and Bosch are some of the companies that make up this cluster. Savannah recently announced that it had joined the first International Lithium Association, which will be based in London and will comprise the world's largest Lithium producers.“
Thanks for posting Starfox!
Spoke too soon “ Other opinions have shown that there will be a negative impact on the regional economy, calling into question more than 250 honey producers and their 120,000 beehives, and 300 producers of Barrosã meat.”
Should imagine the beehives are very portable and I wonder how much methane is produced by the “windy” cattle before they are slaughtered?
Surprised they haven’t found any endangered newts yet? WTF is a water mole?
“ It is enough for the Portuguese Government to turn a blind eye to the approximately 170 negative opinions that were sent during the Public Consultation phase of the Environmental Impact Study, when various entities and citizens warned of the impact that the project could have on endangered species, such as the river mussel, the water mole or the Iberian wolf. The Barroso mines will have an area of ??70 soccer fields (542 ha) that will be in the heart of the Barroso Agro-Silvo-Pastoral System, classified as a UNESCO World Agricultural Heritage Site.”
I think the answer is a week in Florida?
Following on from the Tesla news it seems their competitors are aggressively seeking out battery metal miners!

Kind of surprised that the local consultations are still pending but then the locals would be in no hurry to cooperate if they know a “tick-box” deadline is approaching?
I’m not sure why because the author seemed to favour the prospects for European Lithium and Cornish Lithium? Yet another article that ignores the permitting and local opposition challenges and the project valuations and as such, is misleading to potential investors. I still feel SAV has more growth potential in spite of the delays but this just doesn’t come across in This is Money.
Maybe truth behind the rumour? Would set an interesting precedent and maybe land-grab from competitors?
“U.S.-listed shares of Sigma Lithium Corp rose 21% in extended trading on Friday after Bloomberg News reported that Tesla Inc was weighing a takeover of the Canada-based battery metals miner.
Tesla has been speaking with potential advisers about a bid, the report said, citing people with knowledge of the matter, and added that Sigma Lithium is one of the many mining options the electric-vehicle maker is exploring as it mulls its own refining.
Tesla and Sigma Lithium did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
Sigma is finishing construction of a hard rock lithium mine in Brazil that it expects to open by April. The mine will produce spodumene concentrate, which can be used to make lithium hydroxide, a type of the metal preferred by some automakers including Tesla and BMW.
The project would use hydroelectric power, thus helping to greatly reduce its carbon footprint.
U.S. stock of Sigma Lithium, which has a market capitalization of $3.21 billion, nearly trebled in value last year.
Chief executive Elon Musk said last year Tesla was open to buying a mining company if producing its own supply of electric vehicle metals would speed up worldwide adoption of clean energy technologies.
Tesla and other automakers routinely talk to mining companies of all sizes about potential supplies of lithium and other EV metals without necessarily signing contracts.
Last month, Tesla signed an agreement with Piedmont Lithium Inc for supply of spodumene concentrate from Quebec, starting later this year.
Tesla also has supply contracts for nickel, lithium and a range of other EV metals from suppliers across the globe.

Missing from your list IB (no offence taken) was St Patrick’s day (17th March)? Just checked back to December when I forecast no submission from SAV before I donned the green hat and cracked a few cans of Guinness, so still on track!
“I have been super bullish here in the past”
Yes you have! Quite an interesting read with some quite aggressively positive comments and trashing of Ella. This one is my favourite :
“ I never give advice but what I will say is IMO this is going to be THE copper junior to be in. Soon people will realise this and unfortunately for them by that time it may be too late.”
Maybe you should take a bit of your own non-advice?
The EU will have to ensure that what lithium it mines it keeps for processing and battery manufacture. Adds more pressure on their own Critical Materials Act to deliver. Due out 1st quarter, Spring or thereabouts?
Has an advisory role at a hydrogen/electric aircraft enterprise but no high profile role announced as yet. Would imagine that 2 years of Portuguese politicking was enough for him?
Nothing much to report although reassuring to see that the Portugal lithium processing project does get a mention…
“We are also advancing engineering work and permitting for the Lithium processing facility in Portugal through our 50/50 JV with Northvolt.”

Oh there are many duller shares on AIM I can assure you, retired navy guy I assume? This “boat” has been stuck in the doldrums for a while but is now about 5 miles from port with a quay-load of rum and ladies of negotiable virtue awaiting us! Go comb your hair and brush your teeth!
