Sparkythecat, here is the official Rolls-Royce statement re employment and supply chain, you obviously haven't looked very hard.
Rolls-Royce has outlined its employment projections for the UK's Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme. The company anticipates creating approximately 6,000 regional UK jobs within the next five years, contingent on government support to build a fleet of 16 SMRs over the next 20 years . Looking further ahead, Rolls-Royce projects that the SMR programme could generate up to 40,000 jobs across the UK by 2050, encompassing both direct roles in manufacturing and engineering, as well as indirect positions within the broader supply chain .
These employment opportunities are expected to be concentrated primarily in the Midlands and the North of England, aligning with the UK's "levelling up" agenda to boost economic activity in these regions .
As of early 2023, the SMR division employed around 600 people across Derby, Warrington, and Manchester . However, further expansion of the workforce is dependent on securing government contracts and funding to advance the programme.
