RE: A casual chat in work....:-)20 May 2017 15:20
Last weekend a relative who is 6 was taken to hospital by his parents as he kept "falling asleep". Immediate assessment at A&E, straight from minors to majors and within 2 hours taken by ambulance to another hospital half an hour away. Some debate over whether to take to Birmingham Childrens.
Asthma with complications. Oxygen mask for 4 days, permanent nebuliser to start with before moving to hourly. Parents told in first few hours they cannot guarantee he will pull through.
Discharged on day 5 with 4 hourly medication
I make the point as whilst I don't know whether Proxima would have aided in knowing blood gas reading on a regular basis and allowed more effective use of the nebuliser, the parents would have done or paid anything to see their child survive.
The market is paeds. As I've said before a number of times, when it comes to kids it's almost impossible to say no as a manager in the NHS.
