Zelensky confirms counteroffensive has failed.
Only thing is we all knew months ago.
Why build defence when you are supposed to be advancing ? Unless you want to advace backwards to Kyiv slowly. 🤣🤣🤣.
Farmers have joined in the blockade of the Polish border as they have also suffered from a loss of business thanks to copious and cheap Ukrainian imports.
This is not an official protest, but a grass roots thing, organised by small businesses that are paying a price for the EU’s support of Ukraine. You can call it Ukraine fatigue, but as everyone is admitting, that is happening at sovereign level too. As I said yesterday, there is a fundamental conflict here between the geopolitical goals of countering Russia’s aggression and the need to keep your people employed.
Things are going badly for Ukraine. Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg gave a speech yesterday saying that progress in the military campaign should “not be measured in square kilometres, but in the costs inflicted”. That looks a bit like grasping at straws, as a military campaign should absolutely be measured in kilometres. Especially, when your war goal is to completely expel Russian soldiers from your territory.
There have been several reports in the last days of “massive casualties” but this looks like spin to me. Russia is on the defensive where the casualty rates are much lower than when you are on the offensive, and Ukraine is clearly suffering shortages of both ammo and men. The manpower shortage is a serious problem. Kyiv has issued a plan for mobilisation and in the few comments coming out of Ukraine on this issue paint a bleak picture. Ukraine doesn’t report its death toll, but the reporting suggests that it's extremely high. The Russian death toll must be high too, but then that is the way Russia always fights: it has so many people it just keeps throwing men into the fight until it wins. As the Russians used to say: “Life is hard, but at least it is short.”
On top of that the weather has not only turned cold, but an extreme weather storm is raging over the whole region. Does this mean that the war could be stopped? I doubt it as the Ukrainians in general have nailed their flag to their mast, but with the Russian winter campaign of bombing the power stations just starting, Ukrainians are clearly going to have miserable time of it.
@bigblue (by another name - Jotom750) Did Ukraine tell Russia 3 decades ago that it will like to Join NATO and have US Missiles on its territory?
You can always tell these inbred GbNews watchers by what they say.
Remind me again what the US blockade of Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis was all about.
Ukraine peace deal confirmed again
Top Ukrainian politician and presidential advisor David Arakhamia added a seventh confirmation that a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine was agreed in principle in March 2022.
Six of the seven people that confirmed that a deal was all-but done participated in the talks held in Istanbul at the end of last March and they come from all sides of the table – Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Israel and the US – and they all agree almost perfectly on the details. The only one who wasn’t there was Fiona Hill, but as she is the top US advisor on Russia she was certainly kept in the loop.
Bottom line is they all say it was all about keeping Ukraine out of Nato and getting Ukraine to return to neutrality. Some sort of deal to make Donbas autonomous (and so under de facto Russian control) was agreed and the issue of Crimea was going to be kicked down the road for future generations to deal with.
It's not a bad deal at all, especially the part about Donbas, but just as it was about to be done, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson flew into Kyiv at Washington’s behest and told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy: “We are not going to sign anything. Let’s go to war instead!”
I'm biting my tongue. This cavalier attitude to people’s lives for the sake of geopolitical advantage (and in Johnson’s case, for his personal political advantage) is shocking. Ukraine general staff claimed today they have killed over 325,000 Russian soldiers. Comments by a Ukrainian MP says 97% of the veterans who started fighting Russian-backed separatists in 2014 are now dead.
Zelenskiy wanted to do the deal at the time, according to press reports. He made the comments standing in Bucha a few days later at the start of April looking ashen faced, but it was the statesman thing to do: put aside the anger and lust for revenge and just stop the killing. Personally, I think that history will treat the West poorly over this incident. And now we are locked into a war we can’t escape from as the starting positions of the two sides are so far apart that there is not one inch of common ground to build on.
The peace deal story also blows up a number of bedrock assumptions held by the pro-Ukraine lobby that could cause more problems for Zelenskiy in maintaining Western support. A key assumption has been this war is an imperialistic attack as Putin wants to rebuild the USSR. And that leads a priori to the assumption that Romania, Moldova and the Baltics are in danger as they will be next. If it is all about Nato – and Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also confirmed the December 2021 talks were all about Nato too – then Russia’s operation will be limited to Ukraine and could well be limited to just eastern Ukraine.
It also undermines the assumption that it is “impossible” to do a deal with Putin. The argument runs that we shouldn’t call a ceasefire as that will only allow Russia to rest and rearm before Put

So sad that Ukrainians now realise they were used.

Brutal news for Kyiv!
BILD research shows: Chancellor Scholz and US President Biden want to bring the Russia-Ukraine war to an end soon.
BUT: Ukraine President Zelensky should be forced in a very specific way to negotiate with Kremlin dictator Putin - and accept brutal compromises.

I hope big-blue and Novicehunter are happy at Ukraine "winning".
@MassiveRay the funny thing is if the "west" that he claims to support had spent more money on health and therefore mental health facilities he will actually have gotten the help he needs. But instead they spend it in war and sanctions.
He Is literally supporting his abuser - Stockholm syndrome on steroids.
@novicehunter
This is exactly why you are treated with the contempt you deserve.
Each time you are asked for facts you waffle like the idiot you are.
You must have some sort of mental condition that forces you to humiliate yourself online.
You are so desperate for attention that you enjoy any sort of human communication even if it is just abuse.
So desperate you debase yourself for it.

"Once again BSR have you actually read the article you posted ? It paints the ukr position in a very positive light"

These Ukrainians are getting killed for nothing. They don't have the equipment to compete, they have no reserves left and they are losing.
Yet America insist they keep fighting - This is wickedness made in America.

Ask questions about Corrupt Biden, Hunter or Burisma and get Sanctioned and arrested.
So much Freedom from America and Ukrainian democracy 🤣
The EU will miss the March deadline to supply 1mn shells to Ukraine. It’s sent 30% of the total so far, but this failure by the West to invest into new production facilities to make munitions is for me a damning testimony of the insincerity of the West when it comes to providing Ukraine with the means it needs to win this war.
All this “stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes” is largely empty rhetoric. Ukraine’s fire rate is about 3,000 shells a day according to the last report I saw, whereas Russia is firing over 20,000. As Ukraine has not been given anywhere near enough modern tanks (a total of 50ish against the 500 it needs) and no air support at all, this battle is in effect largely an artillery duel and one where Ukraine is massively outgunned. The set-up of this war is designed to maximise the death toll, whereas Nato’s standard tactic is “awe and shock” that is designed to minimise the death toll.
How can it be that after more than 600 days of this war, the West has yet to invest a significant amount of money into new facilities? The only way to explain this is: that this is a proxy war; that Ukrainian lives don’t matter; that the West thinks it will be over soon; and that the goal is not a Ukrainian victory, but just to deplete Russia’s military capacity as much as possible, at as low a cost to the West as possible.
Neither country has won yet...
OK. You clearly know more than Biden and his administration who "... are worried that Ukraine is running out of forces, while Russia has a seemingly endless supply..."

Reality be Chip chip chipping away at fantasies.
#Polystrong
To hear/ read some on hear try touching their tune. From "Russians are stupid, attacking with Shovels and will lose" TO " oh let us all get along and all this death and destruction is unnecessary" makes me laugh. When we were criticising Zelensky for not making a deal in 2022 and trusting Boris Johnson some of you here were all high on "patriotism to NATO" and thought a comedian will win a war against a former Military man. That a nation of 40 million will win against a nation of 140 million. That an arms beggar will win against an arms manufacturer was utter stupidity. But at last little by little REALITY IS INTERRUPTS YOUR FANTASIES or better put REALITY IS CHIP CHIP CHIPPING AWAY AT YOUR FANTASIES
So all you slimy shape shifters (novicehunter and jotom et all) we see you.
At least have the consistency luke Big-blue to be stupid till the end.
