Exciting times for HVO, moving to the Wharf!!29 Aug 2023 08:15
Canary Wharf is in the midst of transforming from a financial services hub to developing one of Europe’s largest life sciences centres, hVIVO is availing of this opportunity and is opening a brand-new state-of-the-art facility. To add to this exciting news, the bulk of the move is being funded by a number of hVIVO clients seeking to accelerate their studies!
The facility will contain 50 quarantine beds, with potential expansion capabilities to accommodate up to 70 quarantine beds in the future. This highly specialised facility will also enable hVIVO to conduct even more different challenge trials concurrently as each individual quarantine room will be a standalone ‘zone’. Presently QMB has 3 separate zones while the Whitechapel clinic has just 1 zone, meaning only 4 viruses can be tested at any one time.
The new on-site outpatient unit will facilitate Phase II and III field trials and the cutting-edge virology and immunology laboratories will significantly increase sample throughput and diversify hVIVO's services, expanding our capacity to work with a broader range of pathogens.
The new site is expected to increase volunteer throughput, enhance efficiencies, optimise staff utilisation, and allow us to expand into new revenue streams. Ultimately increasing our revenue cap and enhancing our profit margins.
The new facility's first phase is anticipated to reach completion in Q1 2024, with the full site expected to be operational by Q2 2024. The Whitechapel and Queen Mary Bioenterprises Centre (QMB) clinics will close in 2024 but will remain fully operational throughout this transition, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery to the Company’s clients. Plumbers Row and Manchester FluCamp screening facilities and outpatient unit will continue to serve as convenient locations for prospective volunteers.
