Message out from Bolivia - looks hopeful!28 Jan 2026 08:43
Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz Pereira announced that the government is working on a law for evaporite resources and lithium, based on transparency and aimed at attracting investment to generate economic income for the producing departments and the country.
“We are going to put all our effort into the lithium law, so that it is a transparent, powerful law that brings investment and a lot of money,” he stated in his speech during the launch of the Extraordinary Protection and Equity Program (PEPE) in the city of Potosí.
The president criticized the previous government's handling of lithium policy, citing unknown contracts and large investments of economic resources in industries that were not very productive.
“My position is to speak the truth to you. They already sold Bolivia, signed contracts that no one knows about, invested US$1.2 billion, and there is no lithium, because someone stole that money, and we are going to pursue them to get that money back to Potosí and to bring them to justice,” he warned. The Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy announced that the new lithium law will be part of a package of four regulations for the hydrocarbons, electricity, green energy and critical minerals sectors, which will project a sustainable and reliable image of the country for international investments.
